Today marks the availability of the Legion Pre-Expansion for World of Warcraft. Servers will be down today until 11:00 PDT, so lets take a look at a few of the changes being made to the game.

Transmogrification

Transmogrification is getting an overhaul and will closely resemble Diablo III’s system. Under the new system, whenever you have collected an equippable soulbound item, the appearance of that item will now be stored in a new collections tab called Appearances. Items under that tab will be account bound. You will be able to save outfits and swap them at the Transmogrifier. Also, whenever you change your character’s spec, your outfit will automatically change. Currently under the interface options you can hide helm and cloak. Those options will be moved to the transmogrifier along with the new option hide shoulders.

Player vs Player

A few changes will be made to PvP to prepare for Legion. Starting today, Honor Points and Conquest Points will be removed as currency. Items that were able to be purchased with the old currency will now be purchased with Marks of Honor, which can be earned through Battlegrounds, Arenas, and Skirmishes. Gear will be normalized during PvP combat. What this means is you will receive a pre-determined set of stats for your class specialization. Your item level will give a small boost to those stats. The goal of these changes is to provide a more balanced PvP experience to all players.

Other Notable Changes

Gnomes will have the option to be hunters, however there is no word on whether or not their pets will scale down to gnome height. The talent system will undergo some big changes. Dual specialization will be removed. Players may now change from any three (or four) specializations at any time, as long as they are out of combat. Major Glyphs will be removed from the game, as well as most minor glyphs.

The Legion Pre-Expansion Patch should get players hyped up for the new expansion, which releases August 30. World of Warcraft: Legion is available for pre-purchase starting at $50 USD.

Batman – The Telltale Series is set to release in August for digital download for PC/Mac, consoles, iOS, and Android. On September 16, the game will release on a “season pass disc.” The physical copy of the game will include the first five episodes of the series and will credit the disc owner with digital downloads of the next four episodes which will be available at a later date. Other voice talents include: Travis Willingham as Harvey Dent, Erin Yvette as Vicki Vale, Enn Reitel as Alfred Pennyworth, Murphy Guyer as Lieutenant James Gordon, Richard McGonagle as Carmine Falcone, and Laura Bailey as Selina Kyle.

No GravatarKerbal Space Program , which was first published and developed for PC by Squad in 2011, has had a massive following in the PC gaming community ever since. This week, Squad released the game for consoles; Playstation 4 on July 12, Xbox One on July 15, witha version on Wii U set to release this winter. The game lets you build spaceships ranging from scientifically accurate ones to the down right ridiculous and lets you launch them into space. Your astronauts are called Kerbals – who resemble tiny green space men. The far reaching goal for the game is to land on the moon, or “mun,” in Kerbal speak, but most players are doing well to get off of the ground.

When you launch the game for the first time, it can be very intimidating. The tutorials are a rather long read and show you what an extreme amount of customizing goes in to a successful launch of your vessel into space. It can be a lot to take in and it may seem like the game wouldn’t be fun unless you have a degree in aerodynamics, but that’s where you would be wrong. There are gamers out there who play this game for hours on end and make correct rockets that accomplish the missions they set out to do. Then there are gamers who spend the same amount of time building basic spaceships that crash and burn on every mission. Both types of gamers enjoy this game just as much. Never has there been a game where most of the fun comes from failing miserably.

rocket

The console version of this game is pretty much an exact port from the PC version which is only played with mouse and keyboard. On the console version, the left stick controls the mouse pointer. This makes lining up the parts of your spaceships difficult and setting numerical parameters difficult as well. With a mouse and keyboard, you get much more control over lining up the parts exactly where they need to go. Another downside to the console version is the amount of reading for the tutorial section. The font size is very small and I had to sit right up against the TV in order to see it. I would have recommended to split up the instructions into more steps to click through so the font size could be larger on the screen and the game can be played from further away. Kerbal Space Program is not really the type of game where you want to skip the tutorial, so I think the tutorial section could have been configured better for consoles.

Even though the console version of the game does have some control scheme issues, Kerbal Space Program is not a game to miss out on. I put off playing it for a long time because I thought it looked too difficult for someone like myself who has no background in space travel outside of Star Wars. However, when I saw how happy my Kerbal astronaut looked as I was launching him to his death, I knew this game would break me of my perfectionist thinking that I had to understand all the ins and outs of space travel in order to enjoy this game.

Kerbal Space Program is $40 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

No Gravatarred dead redemption

The rumors are true! Microsoft has confirmed that Red Dead Redemption will be available to play on the Xbox One this Friday.

Back in February, Microsoft accidentally released the game as a backwards compatible title due to a testing error. This led Red Dead fans to believe the game would soon be available to play on the Xbox One.

All physical copies of the game will be ready to play on Friday – the base game, the expansion Undead Nightmare, and the Game of the Year edition.

Red Dead Redemption was published by Rockstar Games in 2010, and was considered to be one of the greatest releases that year.

As of today, the digital copy is for sale on the Xbox Live Marketplace for $7.49 for Gold members and $10.49 for everyone else.

No Gravatar20th Anniversary PS4

Happy birthday, PlayStation One! Since December 3rd is Sony PlayStation’s 20 year anniversary (I feel old!), Sony has announced that there will be a new limited edition version of the PlayStation 4 in the styling of the original grey console. To be released in the US and Canada, the limited edition grey PS4 will be indeed very limited. Sony is planning on making only 12,300 unites worldwide.

To show how special the console will be, each system will be numbered. Not only that, but the system itself will feature the original PlayStation four-colored logo and has a repeated etching pattern of the four PlayStation button symbols. The PS4 controller is patterned after the original one and also has the button etchings on the back of it. The limited edition console also comes with a vertical stand, PlayStation camera, and a mono headset to match the system.

If you can’t buy the limited edition PS4, you can still celebrate the anniversary by downloading some free themes for the PS4, PS3, and Vita from the PlayStation Store. The anniversary theme also features the original PS One start-up sound.

The system will cost $499 and will be available for pre-order on December 6. The PlayStation Experience keynote will also take place on the same day at 10 AM Pacific Time. More details on the system will be released during the keynote.

No GravatarThe week of October 27th has been slam packed with all kinds of Marvel Cinematic Universe announcements. Perhaps as a way to combat the recent popularity of DC tv and movie popularity, Marvel Studios has just revealed upcoming plans for Phase Three of the MCU with movies planned up until 2019.

At Disney’s El Capitan theater in Los Angeles, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, announced plans for Captain Marvel and Black Panther to get their own movies, along with other sequels and new franchises.

The Schedule

Captain America: Civil War (May 6th, 2016);
Dr. Strange (Nov. 4th, 2016);
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (May 5th, 2017);
Thor: Ragnarok (July 18th, 2017);
Black Panther (November 3, 2017);
Avengers: Infinity War, Part 1 (May 4th, 2018);
Captain Marvel (July 6th, 2018);
Inhumans (November 2nd, 2018);
Avengers: Infinity War, Part 2 (May 3rd, 2019)

Black Panther will star Chadwick Boseman, who portrayed Jackie Robinson in the movie 42 as well as James Brown in Get On Up. In case you’re not familiar with who Black Panther is, he’s the ruler of a fictional African nation called Wakanda. Vibranium, the metal used in Captain America’s shield, is mined there which has caused the country to be rich and highly technologically advanced. Chadwick Boseman is slated to appear as Black Panther in a total of five upcoming Marvel films, beginning with Captain America: Civil War.

Captain Marvel was also announced to get her own movie, as it was confirmed that this would be the Carol Danvers version of the superhero. She will be Marvel’s first female character to get her own film. This might be disappointing to fans of Black Widow, who were expecting her to have the first female Marvel Universe film, but Feige reassured us that Natasha Romanov would be heavily featured in the rest of the Avengers movies. So far there is no actress confirmed to play Captain Marvel.

Also announced this week is the actor portraying Doctor Strange. Rumors began with actors such as Johnny Depp, Keanu Reeves, and Joaquin Phoenix. However it’s been confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, The Hobbit) will be portraying the surgeon-turned-Sorcerer Supreme.

Making an event out of announcing Phase Three, Marvel Studios has decided to “go big or go home,” combating DC’s announcement of a Wonder Woman movie and success of Gotham and Constantine. Your move, DC.

No GravatarWhat happens after your favorite video games are over? Who cleans up the blood, the aliens, the bodies, and the rest of the mess? Viscera Cleanup Detail attempts to answer that question.

vcd

You play as a sci-fi janitor and it’s your job to clean up after whatever space battle/evil experiment/bloody massacre just happened. The game is really simple – you switch between a mop and your hands. You have an infinite amount of refuse bins and water buckets to clean with and an incinerator to burn your trash when you’re done. So far in development there are ten maps to choose from as well as two bonus maps for buying the game before release – Santa’s Rampage and Shadow Warrior. At full release, there will be multiplayer co-op and speed trials. Currently you can try out this feature, but I wouldn’t suggest it since it’s still very buggy.

As someone who has random bouts of OCD cleaning, I felt like VCD was the perfect game for me. I was surprised at how many hours at a time I would obsess over getting a map into pristine condition. The bigger and more impossible map, the better. Evil Science was my favorite because it takes place in a futuristic science lab where humans and aliens are being experimented on. I never thought I could spend hours upon end playing such a short game that is still in development, but I found myself being reluctant to stop cleaning. It got so bad that I started obsessively cleaning my own apartment!

In a way, the game reminds me of my day job (I’m a registered nurse), so I would clean with extreme focus and actually think that I was a real janitor. Viscera Cleanup Detail delivers a convincing simulation of janitorial work in that the game is repetitive and tedious. However, I loved the freedom of being able to come up with my own back story of what happened on the space station and how I got there.

vcd2

Here are some handy tips to help when you play the game:

1. Go for picking up the “bits” first before you reach for the mop and bucket. You’ll notice various appendages – human and otherwise – as well as intestines, trash, bullet casings, and equipment. If you try to mop up around severed limbs, you’ll just spread more blood and make a worse mess.

2. When it’s time to mop, start with the ceiling and work your way down to the floor. When you’re ready to mop the floor, remember the old saying “don’t pant yourself into a corner?” Well, don’t mop yourself into a corner. If you walk over blood and sludge, you’ll track footprints everywhere, so be sure to map out a path that you won’t backtrack.

3. Don’t get to happy with the arc welder. If you use it too long, you’ll burn scorch marks that will travel all throughout the walls or floors that take even longer to clean up. It is hard to throw away a body bag all at one time, but once you figure it out, it’s not that bad.

4. Make sure you have some awesome music playing while you clean. I recommend listening to the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack – Awesome Mix Volume 1. After all, what do you think Peter Quill did before he became the Legendary Starlord?

Viscera Cleanup Detail is available on PC and you can buy it through Steam Early Access for $7.99.
