A short while ago, it was reported that a fan had made a demake of The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild as a 2D NES style game . This was based off Nintendo’s own 2D prototype which they mentioned in a panel about the game. Fans loved this fan game and it was getting attention. Unfortunately, that isn’t always a good thing.

The creator of the project revealed on twitter that Nintendo has sent a takedown notice.

However, there is still good news. The project will continue in a new way. Rather than remain a  Zelda fan game, it will become a new indie project that is a spiritual successor to the fangame.  This works out far better, as it doesn’t violate any copyright laws and the creators can now profit off of their work.
