Yacht Club Games has taken to their website to reveal new details about Shovel Knight on Nintendo Switch. Using your amiibo will still allow custom knight, and since the data is saved to the amiibo, you can transfer your character over. You no longer need the amiibo to unlock co-op mode however, as that now comes with the game.

The big news however, is that the amiibo now unlocks new content in Shovel Knight, Plague of Shadows, and Specter of Torment

Introducing Madame Meeber and the Fairy of Shovelry!

That’s all very well and good, but… what does it do in Specter Knight’s campaign? And now that we think about it… it doesn’t do anything for Plague Knight either! Well, that just wouldn’t do! How could we squeeze a little more shovel love out of the amiibo?

Boopity Boo! Introducing Madame Meeber, summoner of fairies and fun! This affable conjurer can be found in the Village, Potionarium, and even the Tower of Fate! If you speak with her and scan your Shovel Knight amiibo, she will summon a flying friend for you: the Fairy of Shovelry!!

This new companion character will help dig for treasure, attack enemies and cheer you on. But if you are worried that he will get in the way or annoy you, you can rest easy. Yacht Club has reassured players that the Fairy of Shovelry will not cause a distraction to the player and will only be around in helpful ways. In addition the character is an optional one, but he does look cool.

Shovel Knight on Switch looks to be the definitive version of the game, and this is another reason why.  I am looking forward to this game on Switch and we only have a couple of days left to wait.
