Here is some unexpected news that I doubt anyone saw coming.
Konami has announced Super Bomberman R is going to get some Gradius, Castlevania and Silent Hill-themed characters in a future DLC update. These include the Belmont Bomber, Vic Viper Bomber and Pyramid Head Bomber.
This is really cool DLC, especially for old school fans. Konami did say they would look at this game and how it performs, to determine more series revivals. This DLC is definitely a good sign for that.

Regarding the latency issues during Online Battles (3)
Dear Bomberman Fans,
We are happy to announce a significant upgrade for Super Bomberman R available on Nintendo Switch.
These improvements should greatly refine the game-play, control input and character controls, for both online and offline play.
This is the first of many upcoming updates that will focus on improving the Super Bomberman R play experience.
We appreciate your patience and your continued support..
Stay tuned for more information!
The Super Bomberman R team.
Super Bomberman R has sold extremely well in Japan and likely the rest of the world, and so it isn’t surprising to see Konami rush to fix it up. Hopefully this is a sign of even more Konami support coming.
The patch should be out by now, so play on and enjoy.
Super Bomberman R players have been reporting some issues with control lag, which has led to problems affecting their games. Konami has since responded and hs now stated that they are working on a way to fix it.
Konami posted a notice to the Super Bomberman R website. In it, they stated “Konami’s first priority is to adjust control response times which will improve both the online experience and control lag during offline battles.” They are preparing a patch to resolve the issue and it should arrive “very soon”.
Konami also stated that additional updates are coming. These will help “to continuously improve the experience for players, both online and offline.”
The Nintendo Switch released last Friday and has accomplished great things so far. The system and has sold well in all markets for Nintendo and Zelda has broken sales records. And now it seems, the other launch games are also doing well. We have some sales data for Super Bomberman R and things look good for the series.
Super Bomberman R sold 39.609 copies in Japan according to the Media Creates charts, making this the highest opening week for the series in nearly 20 years. This is big considering how the series had been put on hold for a while.
Another Switch game has sold out on preorder on Amazon. Following The Legend of Zelda’s selling out on the retailer’s website, Super Bomberman R has now sold out completely. The game had previously sold out on Amazon.ca a few weeks back, so this is a good sign. Maybe this game doing well, will be helpful in bringing third parties to the Switch. Or maybe it will help bring Konami to the realization of what they can do to redeem themselves.
Super Bomberman R’s official website has laid out details for the multiplayer options the game has to offer.
Fpr local play, you can have up to eight controllers paired with the Switch for an 8-player battle. However you can also pair two controllers to four Switch systems to play with eight players, so you don’t need to only do it one way,
For the online play, you are able to pair two controllers to four Switches connected to the internet, and then participate in an 8-player battle that way as well.
Some new information has come out about Super Bomberman R that may surprise some people. The official GDC 2017 site lists Super Bomberman R as one of the playable games developed with the Unity engine. It is a bit strange that rather than going with internal tools, Konami and HexaDrive decided to use a third-party engine.
The bigger news here however, is that this confirms Unity will be supported Day One on the Switch. Hopefully this will help development of more Switch games go quickly.
Konami has posted the opening cinematic for Super Bomberman R on youtube.

The video shows us who the villain will be, and the relationship dynamic between the Bomberman family. Super Bomberman R looks fantastic and should be a true return to form for the series. We will have a review of the game shortly after launch.
Konami has announced a new game for arcades surprisingly. Bombergirl is a 4v4 co-op game where players team up to defeat an enemy base, with 4 arcade cabinets side by side. The art style has a very strong anime look, which will no doubt be off-putting to some.
However, before people get angry, allow me to play devil’s advocate. This game, while being extremely different from a true Bomberman game, is not necessarily a bad thing. Konami is trying new things, yes, but this is still a real game and not a pachinko game. As well, we have a true Bomberman game coming in under a month, so there isn’t a need to be angry about this.
To me, this game represents Konami trying to get back into game and starting to atone for their poor actions in recent years, such as severely mistreating employees and ruining franchises and games. I will say though, that while I am willing to give Konami a small chance to win back their fans, I will state that they have a lot of work to do before they get the fans back. We should let them try to win us back, but not let them off the hook for what they did in the past.
