CD PROJEKT RED sent out the following

CD PROJEKT RED, creators of The Witcher series of games, announce the start of Public Beta for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Gamers can start playing immediately by visiting playgwent.com on PC, or — on consoles — download the client directly through Xbox Store or PlayStation Store.

“Public Beta is an important step towards GWENT’s final release,” said Marcin Iwi?ski, co-founder of CD PROJEKT RED. “We’re opening the gates to everyone who wanted to play, but didn’t make it into the Closed Beta, and — at the same time — we’re introducing some pretty significant content and gameplay changes like adding animated versions of cards for every card in the game, new starter decks, or how weather cards work,” Iwi?ski adds. “I’m extra curious how all of the community feedback we’ve incorporated will resonate with both current players and those who’re just starting. Please keep the feedback coming, we’re listening!”

More information about GWENT and the Public Beta is available in the FAQ section of playgwent.com.

It is great that even though the Witcher III has been out for a while, CD PROJEKT RED has been able to keep the franchise alive in new ways. Making GWENT a standalone game is a smart move, especially given games like Hearthstone and Elder Scrolls Legends.

CD PROJEKT RED, creators of The Witcher series of games, announce the Public Beta for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game. Scheduled to begin May 24, Public Beta will be available for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

“Public Beta is the next step in the game’s development process, one that we’d be honored to continue alongside everyone who’s been with us thus far,” said Benjamin Lee, Development Director at CD PROJEKT RED. “It’s also a chance for many new gamers to play GWENT for the first time and we’re looking forward to making the game even better with their help,” added Lee.

GWENT’s Public Beta is a fresh start for everyone. Card collections and player progress will reset to ensure gamers begin on equal footing. Everyone who participated in the Closed Beta will receive Card Kegs, as well as other in-game rewards for their activity. Additional information regarding Closed Beta participation rewards is available here.

The switch from Closed to Public Beta will entail a short technical transition period starting May 22. Until the start of Public Beta on May 24, game servers will be offline for maintenance. During this time, GWENT’sFacebook and Twitter channels will provide updates on the game’s status.

With the Witcher trilogy concluded, it is great that GWENT lives on. Card spinoffs of popular RPGs are becoming a big deal now, and this is a great addition to the field.

Will you be taking part in the GWENT beta?

No GravatarCD Projekt Red has sent out a notice today that they are looking for players to help put GWENT servers through a technical stress test on two different days very soon. Titled Kill the Servers!, the purpose of the test is to stress GWENT’s hosting backend and makes sure the servers hold up with players actually on them.

GWENT is a a standalone game of the card game within The Witcher for the PC and Xbox One. Players can pick what faction they wan to play: the Scoia’tael, Monsters, Northern Realms or Skellige. Other factions will be added in the near future. Play matches against friends or a try and compete against the best in the world in ranked battles.

The first stress test will begin this Friday, 09/23 from 5pm to 9pm CEST and then again the next Tuesday 09/27 from 8pm to 12am CEST. This is only for the PC version and players must first be registered for the Beta testing that will begin October 25. After registering, those seeking a code will need to follow on Facebook or Twitter for more information about code availability. Those who might be able to gain access to the stress test does NOT guarantee a spot in GWENT’s Beta test.
