Nintendo has disclosed some information from NPD about their sales in April and the data is very interesting.

The  Switch was the best-selling gaming hardware in the U.S. in April with more than 280,000 units sold. This is the second month in a row that Switch was the best selling system in America, even with a constrained supply. Nintendo further  stated

“April sales of Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems (more than 68,000 units sold) combined to make up almost half of all hardware sales across all dedicated video game systems.”

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also did well, with 460,000 copies at retail, or 550,000 copies when factoring in digital sales. This is only counting two days of sales for the game, as the cutoff date was April 29th for NPD tracking.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild  was the third-highest-selling game in April, continuing that game’s triumphant run. Nintendo then noted that “1-2-Switch and digital-only game Snipperclips – Cut it out, together! also saw strong sales in April.”

The Nintendo Switch had a very good time in March according to NPD analyst Sam Naji who revealed that Nintendo broke records. The Switch had the best launch for Nintendo hardware and the second best hardware launch since 1995 for any platform. 1995  being the time when NPD began tracking such sales.

He stated.

In this debut month (month 1), the Nintendo Switch sold 31K more units than previous best-selling Nintendo month-1 platform, the Game Boy Advanced, which released back in June 2001. The two Nintendo Switch SKUs, the 32GB Gray Joy-Con, followed by the 32GB Neon Red/Blue Joy-Con, were the best-selling systems for the month.”

What was also amazing that he mentioned, was the fact that the total Zelda franchise sales from 1995 to the present comes in at around $1.4 billion. Zelda is actually the top-selling property of all time within the Adventure super genre, and has sold 54 percent more revenue than the next best-selling franchise, which is Resident Evil, meaning that is a wide super genre.

No GravatarThe 3DS, the first widely used 3D video game console has managed to beat the 5 million selling record of other famous consoles, including the well known Wii and older beloved ones like the Game Boy Advance in Japan. The 3DS managed to cross the 5 million mark for Japanese sales in 52 weeks, while it took 58 weeks for the Game Boy Advance and 56 weeks for the DS. The statistics given were based on the number of consoles sold from retailers to buyers so the numbers of other means of purchasing a 3DS were not taken into account.

It's all in the chart.
