Rougelite platformers are becoming more and more popular, and to succeed in the gaming market, a rougelike needs to have some very addictive gameplay. This is why I hate Xenon Valkyrie+, as it is so addictive that I often play until my switch battery dies on me.

With nice looking visuals and intense gameplay I was hooked instantly. You have a variety of characters to choose from, each with their own strengths and weaknesses to set them apart. You begin descending lower and lower to defeat enemies, while leveling up and getting new weapons in the process. It all sounds fairly standard but somehow Xenon Valkyrie+ makes it unique. Whether it is the high energy music, the push to collect everything that drops, or the challenging gameplay, there is just the right amount of amazing mixed together here.

That isn’t to say the game is perfect. There are a few issues, such as same runs putting you into a layout where a wrong move can lead to you being unable to proceed. This isn’t to say the game generates a no win situation, but rather that you can be caught off guard easily by this. Fortunately, there is always a way to get out so you can respawn and start again, but losing your progress can be annoying.

Even with this issue, Xenon Valkyrie+ has the IT factor that so many games lack. It triggers something in your brain to make you happy and want to play more. The bosses are imposing but fun to bring down, the weapons are fun to use, and the different characters do feel unique. I mentioned the music briefly earlier, but I need to mention it again. The soundtrack helps not only set the mood for playing, but gives you a sense of desire to keep going. It is everything a game soundtrack should be, and I love it.

I fully recommend Xenon Valkyrie+ for Switch, and suggest you all check it out.
