Warming the hearts of shmup fans everywhere, Tozai Games confirmed that the influential arcade classic, R-Type™ Dimensions EX, is coming to the PlayStation®4 system on December 19. The game will be available at a 20% discount during its first two weeks of sale.*
Of the recently released Switch version, Metro.co.UK says, “The best 2D shooters of the retro era return once again, with a good value package that has plenty for new fans and old,” while Nintendo Life comments, “Both games are handled brilliantly, whether playing with the old-school sprite-based art style or the enhanced polygonal one.”
R-Type Dimensions EX includes both acclaimed arcade classics initially published by Irem, R-Type (1987) and R-Type II (1989). Each title can be played in classic mode with the original 2D graphics and retro music, or with shiny, hi-res 3D graphics and remastered audio. Three new features have also been introduced in this edition: Full Power-Up Mode, allowing players to power their ships to maximum weapon in Infinite Mode; Fast Forward, the ability to speed up the game in any mode; and crystal-clear 1080p resolution.
