After its leak earlier this morning, we now have the first official trailer for Darksiders 3

We still don’t know a lot about the game, but hopefully more information comes soon. The Darksiders series is a cult favourite and its return was long desired.

It has finally happened. We now know Darksiders 3 is coming. The game leaked on Amazon earlier and it is coming from THQ Nordic and Gunfire Games for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Here is the game description

Play as FURY – a mage who must rely on her whip and magic to restore the balance between good and evil on Earth!
Harness FURY’s magic to unleash her various forms – each granting her access to new weapons, moves and traversal abilities
Explore an open-ended, living, free-form game world in which FURY moves back and forth between environments to uncover secrets while advancing the story
Defeat the Seven Deadly Sins and their servants who range from mystical creatures to degenerated beings
Darksiders signature art style – expansive post-apocalyptic environments that take the player from the heights of heaven to the depths of hell, dilapidated by war and decay and overrun by nature

Darksiders was a fan favourite series, so its return is quite welcome. Many were afraid it would be left unfinished forever, but things are looking good  for itright now!

The Wii U isn’t done yet.

THQ Nordic announced today that Darksiders Warmastered edition is not cancelled on Wii U contrary to the rumors. The game is still coming and now a May 23rd release date. THQ Nordic was a big supporter of the Wii U, after Darksiders II sold well on the eShop, and brought more games to the system. As such, it is good to see that they will support it to the very end.

There aren’t plans for a Switch version that we have been made aware of, but THQ Nordic did say they have 2 big projects in the works for the Switch, so something Darksiders related might still happen.

Darksiders originally came out in 2010 from Vigil Studios and THQ. When THQ went under, the rights were acquired by Nordic Games who have since reincorporated as THQ Nordic. Since then THQ Nordic has been re-releasing THQ games as remasters or re-releases to see the market demand. This has resulted in Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition and now Darksiders Warmastered Edition. But is the remaster a good effort, or should Darksiders have stayed in the past?

Darksiders as a series has been a cross between The Legend of Zelda and Hack n Slash games like Devil May Cry, which may sound odd, but it has a formula that works. Darksiders is just fun, there is no other way to describe it. You play as War, a horsemen of the apocalypse, trying to stop the forces of Hell who have attacked the human world. It sounds generic but actually plays out very well and with a good well written story.

Darksiders uses a comic book art style that looks better than ever thanks to the remaster. But more importantly, the game running at 60 fps really shows off just how gorgeous this game really is. The remaster has fixed a lot of the visual issues the game had originally and I think a few minor issues with the gameplay have also been fixed and the game plays a lot smoother. You can also toggle effects like Vignette and Chroma FX , but you might want to leave them off. They add a shaded border over the screen and a rainbow shimmer to objects’ edges in the distance and this can affect the way you look at the game.

It is not all good news though as there is a major issue. The audio is out of sync with the cutscenes and sometimes the gameplay even resumes while the audio from the cutscene still plays. It is not enough to make me say the game is bad, but it is something that needs to be patched as soon as possible in order for the game to be enjoyable.

All in all, aside from the audio issues, the game is still amazing. Darksiders Warmastered Edition is a great game to play and enjoy for a fun time. I recommend it but must warn you about the audio issues.

Nordic Games sent out the following press release

DARKSIDERS WARMASTERED EDITION Coming to Console Platforms and PC

War and Ruin will ”take care“ of the whistleblower who sang about it prematurely, and subsequently release on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Wii U and PC

Vienna, AUSTRIA – July 28, 2016: Today Nordic Games officially announced Darksiders Warmastered Edition coming to PC, PlayStation®4 (PS4™) and Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Nintendo Wii U.

The release for all platforms is set for October 25th 2016, and it will retail for USD/EUR 19.99, and GBP 14,99, respectively. Darksiders Warmastered Edition is being developed by the experienced developers at KAIKO, who have already been involved with some of Nordic Games’ projects in the past, like the Xbox One Version of Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition and Legend of Kay Anniversary (all platforms).

Darksiders Warmastered Edition Features:

  • PS4, Xbox One and Wii U versions of Darksiders (Wrath of War)
  • Native 1080p rendering resolution for console platforms
  • 4k support and additional video options for PC
  • Doubled all the texture resolutions
  • Rendering improvements and rework
  • Better shadow rendering quality
  • Post processing effects
  • 60 FPS in moment to moment gameplay (PS4, Xbox One, PC, 30 for WiiU)

About Darksiders Warmastered Edition:

Deceived by the forces of evil into prematurely bringing about the end of the world, War – the first Horseman of the Apocalypse – stands accused of breaking the sacred law by inciting a war between Heaven and Hell. In the slaughter that ensued, the demonic forces defeated the heavenly hosts and laid claim to the Earth.

Brought before the sacred Charred Council, War is indicted for his crimes and stripped of his powers. Dishonored and facing his own death, War is given the opportunity to return to Earth to search for the truth and punish those responsible.

Hunted by a vengeful group of Angels, War must take on the forces of Hell, forge uneasy alliances with the very demons he hunts, and journey across the ravaged remains of the Earth on his quest for vengeance and vindication.

  • Apocalyptic Power – Unleash the wrath of War, combining brutal attacks and supernatural abilities to decimate all who stand in your way

  • Extreme Arsenal – Wield a devastating arsenal of angelic, demonic and Earthly weapons; and blaze a trail of destruction atop Ruin, War’s fiery phantom steed

  • Epic Quest – Battle across the wastelands and demon-infested dungeons of the decimated Earth in your quest for vengeance and redemption

  • Character Progression – Uncover powerful ancient relics, upgrade your weapons, unlock new abilities, and customize your gameplay style

  • Battle Heaven and Hell – Battle against all who stand in your way – from war-weary angelic forces to Hell’s hideous demon hordes

This is great news and sounds like a big improvement over the original, and even better  than the remastered version of Darksiders II.

Will you be getting the game? Let us know.

As revealed by Hero of Legend on Neogaf here, Gamefly is listing a port of Darksiders 1 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U. Nordic Games had previously confirmed they had another project coming to Wii U and this looks like this is it. Darksiders II was a great game and I am eager to see what this remastering has in store.

Darksiders was originally published by THQ before they went under. the rights were then acquired by Nordic Games.

No GravatarThere are two big deals I’ve found lurking around the interwebs I think would make gamers very upset if they found out about it after it has passed. So if you want to receive a very special free game or a mindbogglingly huge can’t miss cheap bundle read on!

Donkey Kong Free Game Giveaway

It’s technically not a giveaway as you have to purchase another game in order to acquire the free Donkey Kong game. There are five specific games you can get in order to earn it: Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Style Savvy: Trendsetters, Crosswords Plus, Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone, and Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask. As you can see, only two of the five games listed are ones you’d buy without any incentive so the game is like an added bonus

However the reason why I put it here is because it’s the original Donkey Kong that’s never been available for purchase in the United States and once this deal is gone, well it might not be available again. So get in on the action before January 6 of next year. Just make sure you’re a Club Nintendo Member and register your games after you buy them.

The Humble THQ Bundle

This deal is the motherload. You get 6 video games via Steam codes, Metro 2033, Darksiders, Red Faction, Company of Heroes, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor with a starting donation of $1 or above. As if it wasn’t enough you get the soundtracks for Saints Row The Third, the director’s cut of the Darksiders soundtrack, Red Faction, and Company of Heroes: All Heroes Rise and Company of Heroes: Songs from the Front all with an average of about twenty tracks.  If you pay over $5.72 (the average donation) you also get a copy of Saints Row The Third thrown in.

The best part of this bundle deal is you can donate all the money to charity if you desire. Profits given to charity go to Child’s Play Charity which brings joy to sick children in hospitals by giving them consoles and video games to enjoy (the tears in the corner of my eyes) and the American Red Cross. You can also give a portion of your money to THQ for being such generous folks and a “tip” to Humble Bundle for their good work.

The largest donation given so far has been a staggering $1,050 and over 1.7 million dollars has been collected so far and still rising as I am writing this. Watching the counter rise gives me a good feeling, because as a gamer it proves we have the ability to change the world through what we love doing.
