Lost games getting discovered after many years are becoming more and more common and another has now been found and interestingly enough, it is a first-party Nintendo game. “Noughts & Crosses” was a SNES game designed to be playable only in hotels and on airplanes, and while it has been known about for some time, it has now been shared online.

For some background context,  Noughts & Crosses was one of the games designed for the Nintendo Gateway System. This terminal system was designed to be placed in hotel rooms and airplanes like the N64 Lodgenet variant.  The game was uploaded to a discord server dedicated to game preservation by an anonymous user who left immediately after uploading. There was known to be a cartridge containing the game, but while it was known about, it was never dumped when discovered

The ROM contained information that has suggested it was made by a group of western developers and multiple devs mentioned such as Claude Comair, and Raymond Yan, would go on to work on and be credited in various Nintendo Software Technology projects. Also notable is that the audio is using the SLICK/Audio driver that was created by Bitmasters. There also seem to be assets from the other Nintendo Gateway System-exclusive games in the data, which has given some insight into those games as well.

More news will be coming on this matter, as this is a very recent development.
