This past week saw the announcement of SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy  during the Nintendo Direct Mini. However, there was some controversy over mention of one button moves as well as the fact that that the Japanese trailer showed off more revealing outfits for fanservice. This led some to be concerned  tgarthe game will be censored in the west and that it would be too simple a game to be a good fighter.

In response, NISA has stepped in to assure fans that the situation is not as feared.

Hopefully this clears up any worry.

Ys VIII was announced for Switch this past week, and now some new details have emerged. The Switch version will not be handled by Falcom directly, with NISA is publishing the game in North America, and Nippon Ichi Software taking care of the release in Japan.

A discussion was held between Falcom CEO Toshihiro Kondo and Nippon Ichi CEO Sohei Niikawa on the NIS website that revealed some new details. For example, Niikawa  feels that the three ways to play on Switch: portable, TV, and tabletop modes, are extremely attractive for players. He believes this is the key reason for the Switch’s success overseas and in Japan, since he has heard that Japanese players prefer to play games in portable mode, while western players prefer to play them at home.

Nikawa then discussed the close relationship between himself and Kondo and how they have helped each other grow as businessmen and game designers. The close relationship was the reason Nippon Ichi reached out to Falcom about bringing one of their games to Switch after the success of Disgaea 5 on the system. Because Falcom is a small company, it is necessary for them to reach out to partners, and this is where NIS comes in.

It is good to hear that success publishers are seeing on the Switch is leading them to seek out new games to bring to the system.

NIS America is bringing another game to the Nintendo Switch with Touhou Kobuto V: Burst Battle. It will launch alongside the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita versions in September.

Engage in exhilarating battles on the Nintendo Switch wherever you go!

Reimu is spending her time at the Hakurei Shrine like any other day until a few people visiting the shrine spoke of rumors that a vampire is joining forces with the yokais to assault human beings. Concerned, Reimu steps up and goes to the Scarlet Devil Mansion to investigate the vampire.

What mysterious figure is behind all of these escalating attacks…?

About the Game:

Touhou Kobuto V: Burst Battle is a bullet-hell battle game that takes place in the Touhou universe. Take control of one of nine Touhou characters and eliminate your opponent using bullet-hell patterns, melee attacks, or spell cards! Featuring ear-tingling beats for each character, you might just find yourself dancing while you play!

Key Features:

Return to the World of Touhou – Jump back into the world of Touhou and play as some of your favorite characters in a brand-new 3D square arena.
High-flying Combat – Outwit your opponent by taking your bullet-hell battles to the sky! Perform dashes, doublejumps, and mid-air dashes to avoid bullets and demoralize your opponent!
Climb the Rankings – Compete at home with friends, or online against everyone to climb the rankings and become the ultimate Touhou fighter!

This is great news, as it shows that more third party support is coming to the Switch. This is especially true of niche third party games which have found a market on the system, similar to how Disgaea sold well. Hopefully even more companies will get on board with the platform.

It seems Disgaea 5 will be a hit on the Switch, at least in the west.

Speaking with MCVUK, Takuro Yamashita revealed something very interesting.

“The UK has been historically the biggest market in Europe for the Disgaea series,” Yamashita stated. “However, talking about Disgaea 5 Complete, the UK is not the biggest one [any more]. I am not sure why this happened. We really need to improve the UK situation for Disgaea 5 Complete.

“The best country in Europe is France because the country has been booming up with the Japanese culture for over last decade,” Yamashita continued. “Another key factor of performing well in France is Disgaea 5 Complete’s support for French text.”

The US, of course, still remains the biggest market for Disgaea outside of Japan, with Yamashita saying it has “a larger JRPG fan base than any other country” besides its native homeland. He also says Disgaea is “one of the well-recognised JRPGs among such US communities.”

Indeed, the western market is becoming increasingly important for NIS America: “The era is over for [Japanese games companies] to just rely on the Japanese market,” says Yamashita.

“In order to make the NIS Group’s consolidated figures better, our western sales is very important. While the Western pre-order units of Disgaea 5 Switch exceeded 110,000 units, the Japanese sell-in number on the game was unfortunately less than 20,000 units. We had predicted this would happen to some extent. However, we were surprised that the gap was much bigger than we thought.”

Why this is so important however, is the fact that with these preorders, the game has outpaced the PS4 version which sold 112 000 copies in the west after release. Again, the Switch version numbers are all preorder numbers, so this means the Switch version of the game will have outsold the PS4 version. This is a big deal for the Switch, as it shows third parties that their games can do even better on the platform than on the PlayStation 4, which could lead to more third party support.

No GravatarNIS America has announced that Atelier Totori, the latest game in Gust’s long-running alchemy RPG series, will be released on the PS3 in the USA this fall under the title Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland.

Released in June 2010 in Japan to critical and commercial success, Atelier Totori is a direct sequel to Atelier Rorona, which was released last September in the USA. The lead character, Totori, is an apprentice alchemist to the previous game’s titular heroine, and is traveling the world in search of her family. As with other Atelier games, the game will be a mix of traditional RPG adventuring with a complex alchemy system where the reagents you find affect the quality of the items you produce.

At this time, NIS America has not provided a firm release date for Atelier Totori or details on special editions, which are a staple for the company’s games.
