Over the years seasoned gamers have come to expect the constant evolution that takes place in the world of video games. There have been many consoles released during my time as a gamer, and they are still being made as I type this editorial. I’ve seen many consoles in my time, from the Atari 2600 to the current next gen consoles like the Xbox 360. Out of all the systems I play only a handful of them are worth revisiting. Some of those just happen to be the PlayStation consoles that were released by Sony. When PlayStation was at it’s best it seemed gaming could not get any better. There were epic RPGs, and even fighting games created that paved the way for the next generation of consoles. I’m truly grateful for that experience.

"PSOne w/Monitor"

Those of you who know me, or follow my tweets on Twitter realize how serious of a PlayStation 3 gamer I am. I’m constantly tweeting about putting the hurt on some poor noob in Call Of Duty: Black Ops, or totally ruling someone in Super Street Fighter IV. I’ve owned my PS3 for close to two years now, and have really enjoyed it until recently. As most of you have  heard, or witnessed first hand, the PlayStation has been dealt several blows by hackers, and half done game releases. Since the end of last year, and the beginning of 2011, it appears to me that the PlayStation has been going downhill. Every time I log onto Twitter, it seems that some bad news is being released that concerns PlayStation, or its creators.

"Playstation 3 Console"

The current issues, or rumors are pretty big. If they’re true then PlayStation’s future is looking rather dim. One rumor is that ‘LG’ is trying to ban PS3s from the US. That issue revolves around some dispute that ‘LG’ has about patent infringing by SONY. I won’t go into details, because I’m not sure what’s rumor and what isn’t. The fact of the matter is that if this whole ordeal is true then the PS3 could become an obsolete system. I’m totally outraged by the whole entire thing! I have spent nearly $1,000 on my PS3, and games! I’m honestly sick of it all, the hackers, the half done games, and all of these legal issues!

The catastrophe doesn’t seem to end with the lawsuit either. The second rumor, or issue involves a hacker attack on PS3 gamers credit card info. To add insult to injury, it is rumored that PS3 owners’ credit card info is currently vulnerable to a hacker attack through their PS3 console! Luckily I don’t deal with credit cards, but I definitely feel sorry for those that this situation has effected. A good friend of mine also brought to my attention that Sony keeps all of your info on a separate server, so even if you did manage to delete it from your PS3 it’s likely that it’s still on Sony’s server! That would make the info still readily available for ID thieves, or hackers!

In all honesty I don’t see the PS3 surviving much longer. I’ve debated whether or not I want to stick with Sony, and their PS3 considering the heavy blows it has taken so far. If you follow my tweets on Twitter you’ve most likely seen the comments I’ve made that I might pack my gamer bags, and hop aboard the Nintendo train. As humorous as that is, I have given it serious consideration. I realize the issues are not 100% Sony’s fault, but it seems to me that they would care enough about their customers to have put some effective security measures in order to protect them from situations like these. If this PS3 dilemma as I call it gets any worse I truthfully can’t see myself supporting Sony or it’s PlayStation products any longer. I sit here typing this editorial for all of my readers wondering what happened to the gaming industry I once loved? Where has the fun that I once experienced while playing Castlevania: SoTN, or Final Fantasy VII gone?

I’m sure many of you are as upset as I am about the whole thing. Whatever your stand is one the situation feel free to leave a comment below letting us know.

I'm a hardcore PS3 gamer, age 31. Currently I'm into RPGs, FPS, and Fighting games. Some of the games I'm currently into include Super Street Fighter IV, Marvel vs Capcom 3, Killzone 3, and CoD: Black Ops.

  1. Like news or any sort I think a lot of things tend to only talk about the negative side of things because they’re bound to get better hits then most things.

I don’t think you’ll find it any better getting a Wii or 360. I’ve been enjoying my PS3 more as of late with the better games to download and overall better games coming out this year for it then either 360/Wii. My 360/Wii are gathering dust as we speak as there isn’t any worthwhile games till the fall.

I do agree though about the credit cards. I just moved my account to PSN cards instead as well. Hopefully Sony settles things with all those court cases going on.

  2. They can’t mess with your Credit card info unless you are hacking the system and using custom firmware your self so that doesn’t matter at all unless your one of these dicks.

  3. Can you say that an X-bot fanboy wrote this article?
PS3 is the best console in the market, there is no reason to go to any other system (Specially to play “motion controll games where you are the controller, pew pew”

  4. DC Universe Online, the new elder scrolls…cm’on now a jump to the wii under such circumstances is foolish.

  5. DUDE!!! I didn’t expect to get so many replies … I’m kind of flattered 😉 First let me state that I tried to make it clear that what I was talking about in the articles may be rumors. In no way was I saying I totally bought into them. The only thing I have encoutered that is legitimate is the in-game hacking/cheating in online PS3 games, and the rather unfinished release of CoD: black Ops. Second of all I’m totally not an X-bot fanboy (I found that pretty humerous Btw). If you ever stop by twitter look at my profile, and it says Hardcore PS3 gamer 😉 I totally appreciate all of your comments, both the good and the humerous 😉 Keep the comments coming. I appreciate it when people take the time to read what I or any of the other staff have to say. Have an Awesome day everyone!

  6. Nah I am sticking with PS3 for my primary console I have the 360 and a Wii but PS3 is just more stable/reliable overall. As for hopping on board with Ninteno, what are you nuts? Even the most die hard Ninty fans are waning with the Wii’s lack of software and completely abysmal upcoming prospects. Nintendo has just not made a good home console since the SNES and the successor to the Wii will not likely change that it always comes down the the same thing lacking 3rd pary support and 1 or 2 1st party releases a year (if your lucky). Microsoft concerns me, I don’t know what their intentions are. Honestly I would not be surprised if their next console was not even a console but rather a platform that has a minimum spec sheet but different configurations. Almost as if it were a more unified Windows gaming platform with all the games distributed over the XBL service (which I am not a fan of).

  7. TOM.. i could not agree more.. I used to be a DIE HARD NINTENDO FAN.. though i has both PSX and N64. currently i own all 3 and i am an xbox guy to be honest but i was all for the wii until i got my xbox. Now the only reason my wii is turned on is to play SMASH BROS.

the wii messed up in 2 sections.. the NO-HD part, and more importantly POOR ONLINE. though online for Mario Strikers was decent the rest were crap.

  8. Tom, thanks for taking time to leave a comment 😉 My intentions are to stick with the PS3. I totally agree with what you said about the Wii & the Xbox 360. I am still thinking about getting an Xbox 360 at some point, but my loyalty will still be with the PS3. I like the free online for sure, and the game selection is sweet! I also just heard that ‘Catherine’ will be coming out this summer! That’s even more reason to stick with the PS3 😉

  9. the ps3 is an excellent concole this world is full of competition and thats why rumors come out ,, the hacking dosent affect me single player here , all games i played were completed , love rpgs..get the prepaid cards guys and play Demon Souls…..

  10. Sony wastes more time trying to stop piracy than pleasing its honest customers.

  11. I think all the platforms need to be a little more forward thinking. Sony’s biggest mistake, in my opinion, is that they aren’t backing the Vita enough. This should be their flagship device, and short of Golden Abyss, Mortal Kombat, and a few other titles there’s nothing mind blowing. I play mostly ps1, ps2, and PSP titles on my Vita via the Ad Hoc app on PSN (Monster Hunter FTW). Even Xbox needs to start thinking more next gen and stop rehashing GoW and Halo. Let’s get some new IP going.
