Games for kids are a delicate matter it seems. You do not want to overwhelm young kids and get them started with gaming that is too much for them at their age, but you also do not want to give them a game that is so basic and inoffensive that it becomes insultingly easy to them. This is the issue that is present with It’s Spring Again and it is present from the very beginning of the game.
It’s Spring Again is a touchscreen game, but does not give you any indication that this is the case. This will lead to some frustration as you try and figure out why it isn’t working, until you realize that it is touchscreen only. That is one strike against the game. The other strike is that I played this with my cousin’s young child to see what the target audience thought of the game, and he found it utterly boring. This is a game designed to teach young kids about the four seasons, but the only part that held his attention was the winter segment. Once that was done, he didn’t want to play the rest of the game.
The problem was more than just a boring game that didn’t appeal to its target audience. My little cousin really disliked the music in the game, and once I told him that we could turn it off, he immediately asked me to do so. The visuals were also an issue here as well. I didn’t find them appealing at all, and in fact they looked rather off. My cousin’s opinion was likely what was wanted and he didn’t like it either, as according to him it looked like a picture that “had gotten sad”.
It’s Spring Again is not a game worth looking into if you are a parent and want to find a good first game for your child. It is insultingly easy and kids will get bored quickly and grow tired of it. I suggest finding something else, perhaps something from Nintendo themselves.
