There have been so many classics over the years in gaming, games that have influenced generations of creators, and games that laid the groundwork for future games. One such title was “Another World”, a classic platformer now given a re-release on Switch.  Some say that the game hasn’t aged so well, but I feel that the unique visuals have actually given the game a unique look that, while not ageless, makes it stand out more.

In terms of gameplay, Another World is a punishing platformer that plays similar to the original Prince of Persia games. You will need to learn the pattern of how the world works, as there are plenty of dangers around. You will die over and over again, but once you memorize everything, you will cease having difficulty. This makes Another World play a lot more like a puzzle platformer than anything else. It was very different from anything else at the time and managed to subvert expectations over what could be done in video games. This was a turning point for gaming, where narrative became much more important to the medium.

Has it aged well? I would say so, if viewed more as a puzzle game than anything else. The visuals are not timeless as I said, but due give the game a distinct look that lets you view it in the context of the time it came out. I am happy it has come to Switch, so more people can get a chance to enjoy the game and see what was a major step forward for gaming as a whole. I suggest checking this out, but be warned that it is difficult and you will need to be fine with dying over and over. But keep at it, and you will have a good time in the end.
