The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time is considered one of the best games of all time. Nintendo has always sought to surpass its legacy which was only done with Breath of the Wild (though many feel OoT still is better). The game has been re-released more than once over the years, and received an enhanced port on the 3DS that did touch up a few details but left most of the game alone. But Nintendo once had plans for a very different take on Ocarina of Time that never ended up happening. I am referring of course, to Ura Zelda.

Ura Zelda was a cancelled remake/expansion of Ocarina of Time that was planned for the Nintendo 64 DD. That system was a complete flop so the game was cancelled and another project called Zelda Gaiden had to be reworked when it was released as Majora’s Mask. . While Miyamoto has said that Ura Zelda became Ocarina of Time Masterquest, there has been much doubt about that, since Masterquest has very little of the ideas from Ura Zelda. For example sword beams and more dungeons were planned and it is believed that Ura Zelda would resolve the Zora’s Domain storyline.

I believe a great idea for Nintendo to do, would be remaking Ura Zelda from the ground up for the Switch. Not only would this be a great way to revisit a classic game, but it would be a brand new experience for everyone. It would also satisfy those who were disappointed with Breath of the Wild’s changes to the formula. This wouldn’t be a remake of Ocarina of Time, but instead a reimagined version with many ideas that went unused but were intended.

While it is true that many ideas did end up recycled into later games such as the aforementioned Breath of The Wild and Majora’s Mask,  much of it was still unused and the original vision never happened. Ura Zelda would have added so much to the Ocarina of Time experience, and while that game doesn’t need another remaster,  a redone Ura Zelda would not just be another Ocarina of Time re-release. Recreating the lost Ura Zelda content for a remake would be a truly amazing experience that would be amazing for a new generation be able to play Ocarina of Time with the same wonder we all did back on the N64.

I am curious what you all think of this. Please share your opinion with me on the matter.
