Rain World is an intense survival game starring a small woodland creature. This creature which is rather rabbit like is forced to run through a vicious world that wants to kill it at every turn.
Rain World is not a game for the faint of heart and can be quite difficult. As a survival game, players must be ready to die at a moments notice and work to play as precisely as possible. If players think they are up to the challenge a little creature needs help surviving in this wild world.
This game offers three different difficulties for the player to play on that will change how the game is played. The monk is the easiest of the three and sends the player into a less dangerous world. The survivor is harder but is omnivorous leading to a playstyle where the player can hunt the harder to kill predators if they so choose. This world is far more chaotic and the player will need to be on their toes. The Hunter is the last mode and this slugcat wants nothing more than to always eat meat. The predators are going to be hard for such a small animal to kill and the world will be even more unforgiving. Be warned that players must beat the game on one of the other settings before becoming a hunter.
This game is based on the extra hard 16-bit games of yore. A game style that will test the mettle of anyone who plays it. This game is a true survival game where this little guy will need to do what they can to survive. It’s great to see 16-bit games back in the spotlight as places where people can truly test their mettle!
While it might seem insane, this game boasts an impressive 1600 rooms with 12 diverse regions for the slugcat to explore. There are many delicious delicacies for the player to find but the monsters out there are only out for themselves. A truly brutal game awaits and one that really will test what the player is made of.
The gameplay revolves around the player foraging for food and avoiding anything that wants it dead. When the player amasses enough food they can hibernate. They will need to do so, to get out of the rain which when it comes will be deadly to the player. There is something frightening about the rain being the slugcats kryptonite. The slugcats just aren’t built for rain and the sheer fact of it falling on them can kill them instantly. Though the HD Rumble will save the player because just before it falls, it will activate.
The slugcat plays rather similarly to a ragdoll. He flops about at times and the player must maneuver it in the right way. The slugcat can jump over large pits, shimmy into tunnels, and even climb. This little creature will even be able to carry a spear to attack his prey. There are also little holograms that pop up to tell players how to do certain actions. It’s nice that the game gives the player a tutorial because this game really is a monster.
This game is also amazing because it is procedurally generated. There is no memorizing of the game. Players can play through it dozens of times and not see the same rooms. This makes sense for a survival game and also turns the difficulty up even more. The slugcat has no idea how they’ll survive and the player won’t have a clue either.
There is even a pretty fun Arena mode. This allows players to play against each other in competitive battles and in a sandbox. When a player feels they are up for the challenge they should hop in and try their luck, they might not be as prepared as they thought.
Rain World is a game that won’t be for everyone. A game that tasks the player with surviving in a dangerous world, that wants to kill it at every turn. For those brave enough to take on this world with their small slugcat, they will surely find a worthwhile gaming experience. There is a slugcat out there in need of help, will the player aid in its survival?
