I like to play a variety of games, and RemiLore is definitely an interesting game. It can be described as Gauntlet meets Anime meets RPG gaming, but that doesn’t do it justice. RemiLore is both a tribute to the great arcade gaming of the past, combined with modern storytelling, polish and innovation.
The game sees a young girl named Remi whisked off to another world and needing to join forces with a talking magic book called Lore. Both characters have unique abilities and you will need to learn how to effectively use the. You mainly control Remi and use her to attack, but Lore provides magic support that is essential to getting through the game.
RemiLore definitely succeeds in capturing the spirit of old school hack n slash games, but they have taken the right cues from not just Gauntlet, but modern gems like the Diablo series as well. You make your way through procedurally generated levels and along the way, must take on hoards of enemies, while finding the best equipment.
What makes the game stand out among all others is its unique sense of character. RemiLore is full of charm and wit, but also genuinely likeable characters. I got invested into the story and the excellent combat and action helped keep me hooked. If there was one flaw I have, its that some stages felt unbalanced in terms of a challenge, but I feel that is normal for the genre.
The best thing I can say here is that there is a good sense of accomplishment as you play, and I really found myself enjoying it. I appreciate the work the devs put in, and they managed to surpass their inspirations as far as I am concerned. It is a rare occurrence that is happens but this is one that the devs knocked out of the park. I fully recommend playing this as you will not regret it.
