Blood Waves was a title I was looking forward to. It seemed to have an interesting premise and idea but after playing it for some time, I just have issues with it.
Blood Waves sees you shooting or hacking down waves of zombies in a room and ..that’s it. Its a simple premise and that’s what attracted me to it. You can move around and use various weapons, dodge and more to get at the enemies, but it all feels hollow. Blood Waves was fun for a few minute but after that, the appeal wore off and I found myself with a rather bland experience.
You can change up how you attack the enemies and there are more weapons to use, but the room doesn’t change and it all becomes monotonous after a while. If this is supposed to echo classic shooters from the arcade days, then the job was not well done. The mechanics are sound, and combat feels okay, if choppy at times, but it just gets boring quick.
I like that there are some strategy elements, such as when to strike and using items to hold back the waves, but these just feel tacked on more than anything else. The action itself is indeed fun, but the issue is that nothing much happens. This is not even akin to the warriors games, where there is more variety and story. Here, everything is bare bones and the lack of visual variety really takes you away.
Bottom line is that Blood Waves is a good idea done poorly. Avoid this one.
