The Ninja Warriors is a legendary arcade game with a devoted following ( even if this writer doesn’t particularly care for the arcade original), and only got better with its console port years later. Now a new release has come with The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors, and the game is better than ever. New visuals, new features, characters and more, make this the definitive version of the experience to play. But what specifically makes it so good?

The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors is based on the SNES game, The Ninja Warriors Again, and all of the improvements in that version. There is no censorship this time however, like was the case with the North American version of the SNES title, so the green blood is here. There is also a 2 player mode here, which was not present in the SNES game either, which is a massive improvement since the SNES game lacked that feature.

The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors, has gorgeous HD 2D visuals and everything practically pops off the screen as you play. The full screen visuals look like you want to remember the SNES game looking, and once again, this update succeeds in making the original better. The enemies are fun to fight, and the bosses and min-bosses are a great challenge to overcome. Each character plays differently, and there is a lot of room to replay the game. The inclusion of a time attack mode is also a great incentive to replay the levels, in order to beat your time and surpass everything,

The one area I had a flaw with is a glitch. After stage 5 on one playthrough and Stage 4 on another, the game went to a black screen and I could not finish it. I was able to play it once I restarted the game, but this is a major blemish on an otherwise perfect time. If it had been a one time issue, then I would have written it off, but more than once means its something that the developers will need to address. I hope they are doing so currently, as the game is great otherwise.

The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors also has some new characters, and they play rather well. I will not spoil any new details about these new characters for those who haven’t played the game yet, but they really do add to the experience. With great music (evocative of the original) and great action, this game has everything you could want in a remaster/remake/reboot. I urge you all to check it out, even with the glitches it has, because they can be worked out, and the overall game is excellent. This is a perfect tribute to one of the best brawlers of the past and now the present.
