Marvel comics in recent years have had somewhat convoluted plots and increasingly dark stories. Many have been left out by the recent runs of some comics, and just cannot enjoy for various reasons. So why not have a series for everyone that pokes fun at all these series?

Enter Mini Marvels, an all ages comic that can be appreciated by anyone no matter how familiar they are with the stories. The comics are fun and witty and the characterization is spot on. The takes on Civil War and World War Hulk are great and the jokes made about the stories really do make you laugh. The comic not only pokes fun at stories like Civil War but also itself and its own characterization of Spider-man and Hulk and so on. If this sounds convoluted, then do not worry as you will understand when you read it why the comics are fun to begin with.

The comics also have their own original stories of course and these are great to read and enjoy. We get a different look at some of our favourite heroes in humorous situations and with writing that is smart and observant. The art is great, with a cartoonish look that is inviting to all and easy to digest. The artwork also evokes classic comic strips like Calvin and Hobbes and Peanuts. Also included  is a complete reprinting of the proto mini marvels comics which were done as comic strip form within various monthly issues of ongoing Marvel series. The influence of Peanuts on these comics is unmistakable, and the humor in them is great. The stories have fun ways of retelling marvel storylines, such as the origin of the Venom symbiote and Spider-Man’s job at the Daily Bugle, and we get to see the absurdity of comics portrayed in a loving way.

The stories are not dark, although they toy with that as a form of parody. These are great for any age and both adults and kids can read and enjoy these comic. Kids can enjoy because of the child friendliness and adults for the parodies of marvel stories and hilarious satire. Mini Marvels is excellent and something everyone should read
