Frontier Developments plc and Complex games have released the third gameplay overview for Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters.

This new video takes a deeper look at both the combat and the story and helps explain the characters and setting of the game a little bit more.

The overview also delves into the various mechanics of the gameplay, and how to do things like body targetting.

Frontier Foundry, the games label of Frontier Developments plc (AIM: FDEV, ‘Frontier’), today unveiled the final developer diary for the upcoming turn-based tactical RPG Warhammer 40,000®: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters, in partnership with developers Complex Games and Warhammer 40,000 creator Games Workshop®, launching on PC on May 5, 2022.

Episode 3 – The Emperor’s Hammer” explores the authentic Warhammer 40,000® experience masterfully crafted by developers Complex Games, providing another look at key gameplay elements which players will use to build their squad and purge the daemonic. Players are also introduced to the crew of the Baleful Edict, the player’s Strike Cruiser and mobile base of operations throughout the game.

Highlights of this final entry in the developer diary series include body part targeting, a system which rewards aggressive melee combat, allowing players to inflict debilitating status effects, remove a foe’s limbs to prevent them from using a particular attack or reducing an enemy’s stun meter. By stunning enemies, players will be opening them up to a brutal cinematic execution, which rewards each Grey Knight with an additional action point to continue purging the forces of Chaos and seize control of the battle. At range, players can actively see the damage they could do to an enemy before committing to a move, allowing commanders to plot turns with total precision.

In addition, players are invited to a more in-depth look at unique upgrades for their squad, their ship and unique single-use psychic abilities known as Stratagems, which can change the course of a battle. Each class of Grey Knight has over 30 possible abilities, allowing players to specialize units within the class. Your squad of Grey Knights can be fully customized, from tilt shields and unique voices, to the weapons and equipment they’ll use during a mission.

A number of the Complex Games team return for this developer diary, including Creative Director Noah Decter-Jackson and Lead Designer Peter Schnabl, who are joined by Chief Technology Officer Adrian Cheater.

Iconic Black Library author and Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters lead writer Aaron Dembski-Bowden also returns to delve into the dynamics of Inquisitorial fervor versus the duty of the Grey Knights. This interplay draws from the depth and complexity of the Warhammer 40,000 universe as players pursue the Bloom, a deadly plague threatening the Tyrtaeus sector and beyond.

Players will experience Nurgle’s plot first-hand when Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters is released on 5 May 2022. Fans can pre-order on Steam and the Epic Games Store now. By pre-ordering, players will gain access to two powerful exclusive in-game items: the Destroyer of Crys’yllix Daemonhammer and the Domina Liber Daemonica.
