Gaming History is not always as apparent as it seems and this includes the history of competitive gaming, especially with regards to other countries.
Back in the 1980s, a competition was held in France called the Championnat de France Atari des jeux Video (French National Atari Video Game Tournament) and multiple cartridges were used as part of the competition, but many of those cartridges have been lost to time and their whereabouts are unknown. But one cartridge’s status is not only known, it is going to be the subject of a sale soon.
In April of 1984, the 4th Championnat de France Atari des jeux Video was held and among the rare cartridges was a Joust Cartridge. This rare cart used in the tournament is being auctioned off tomorrow and is the only known copy of Joust that had been used in the tournament.
This is a momentous occasion should be on the attention of any retro gaming fan or those with an interest in competitive gaming history as it actually happened.
Thanks to Catherine DeSpira for the head’s up.
