Hideo Kojima is well known to be an avid fan of cinema and now one of his games is heading to the silver screen. Kojima Productions has partnered with Barbarian EP Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios to develop and produce a film adaptation of Death Stranding. The film is being fully financed by Hammerstone and will be produced by Kojima and Lebovici with Kojima Productions US and Allan Ungar serving as exec producers.

The plot is being kept under wraps, but Deadline is reporting that it will introduce new elements and characters within the Death Stranding universe.  That said, there is no writer or director announced yet, but the film is being fast-tracked.

Kojima stated: “I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios. This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with them in bringing DEATH STRANDING to the big screen.”

Lebovici state: “We are thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity to partner with brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima on his first film adaptation. Unlike other big-budget tentpole video game adaptations, this will be something far more intimate and grounded. Our goal is to redefine what a video game adaptation could be when you have creative and artistic freedom. This film will be an authentic “Hideo Kojima” production.”

This is big news, and we will follow up when more details come out.
