Rhythm games are an interesting bunch. There is no single type of Rhythm game, and you can find many kinds. These include music games, beat em ups, dancing games and more. Into this field comes Floor Kids, ostensibly another dance rhythm game, the experience is so much more than that. Floor Kids was made by JonJon and Kid Koala, a duo based out of Montreal Canada. JonJon is an animator and Kid Koala is a DJ and producer who has an impressive resume, including Gorillaz.  Floor Kids is clearly a passion project for the duo and they have put a lot of thought and innovation into the game.

Floor Kids is definitely a unique rhythm game and stands out not just for its fluid animation, but also for just how it plays. As I said above, the game is supposedly a dance game but actually plays a bit differently. Think of this as more akin to an arcade sports game like Dave Mira BMX or Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater done as a dance style game. Once I realized this, I began to enjoy the game much more. It definitely pulled me in from the start and I was shocked to find myself playing a game that actually did bring something new to the table.

As you progress in the game, you will have to pull off a variety of moves. These fall into four categories. Top Rock, Down Rock, Power and Freeze, each with distinctions. It takes a while to learn how to do them, but once you familiarize yourself with how the controls work, it all comes naturally. You quickly fall into the routine and will lose yourself to the fun.

My only real grip with the game is the multiplayer. Its amazing, but I feel more could have been done with it. Its not limited, just the opposite. Its just that I feel the developers could have done even more.

It is rare to see a game so fresh and innovative come to the market, and I do not want to see this game become overlooked. I recommend you all check this out.
