Sega unveiled plans to enter the NFT marketplace last April, only to recently say they were willing to back off from it due to fan backlash. Despite this, Sega has registered a new ‘Sega NFT’ trademark in Japan, which was applied for in December 2021 and published today by the Japan Patent Office, as noticed by VGC. This trademark also includes a logo for Sega’s NFT business.
It should be noted the trademark was applied for before Sega mentioned being willing to back away from NFTs. It is possible Sega is keeping an eye on things while maintaining its trademark and possible plans for NFTs should things change. What will come of this remains to be seen.
