Storm Boy is a short and simple game that’s honestly not much of a game at all. This game is actually just an interactive storybook. That is in and of itself brings me back to an easier time, where the only thing that mattered was learning. Storm Boy is a poignant coming of age story and this interactive book is actually quite a treat.

Interactive storybooks always were something I enjoyed when I was just a little young to start reading. In fact, interactive storybooks probably pushed me to read as I always had so much fun playing them.

Storm Boy tells the story of the young protagonist Storm Boy. This boy lives out on a coast and spends his days exploring it. Storm Boy is a young boy who just wants to see everything he can and this soon leads him into a new world of sorts.

Storm Boy finds an abandoned pelican nest with three eggs. He helps them hatch and takes care of the three pelicans. Soon enough the pelican flies away but one actually comes back to see him. This story is really about Storm Boy and his beloved friend Sir Percival.

The story itself is a touching one and filled with good energy. It does get sad but it’s in a good way. It is a coming of age story that younger players should enjoy, and that parents can also enjoy with their kids.

The gameplay is light but worth it when playing a game meant for kids. There are little mini-games that players can enjoy to add a little more time. Nothing too demanding but they fit in with the story well.

I won’t spoil the story but it does touch on a topic that might be touchy. This topic is death, and honestly, this is a great waypoint for discussion. The story is a sweet entry to this idea and one that I hope anyway someone uses to start this topic of discussion with their kids.

Storm Boy is a great little game and perfect for early young players. A game that parents can play with their kids who might not be old to enough to try a game for themselves. Pick up Storm Boy and find out what happens when a young boy makes friends with baby pelicans.
