I love hack n slash brawlers, and for so many to come to switch is a nice thing to see. Damascus Gear-Operation Tokyo is the latest of these offerings, and comes to us from Arc System Works. But is it a good game, or does it fall short of the genre?

Tp begin, the game is somewhat similar to Implosion, released last year on the system, but there are major differences. Damascus Gear-Operation Tokyo relies more on immediate strategic thought, and coordinating your attacks at the exact right time for maximum efficiency. This is rather simple at first, but the game soon throws many challenges your way. Soon enough, you will find yourself really enjoying a hardcore action game, albeit not without its flaws.  The action can get a bit repetitive, but to be fair, that is really the norm with these kind of games and should be expected.

Damascus Gear- Operation Tokyo has a detailed system for customizing and modifying mechs. However, while it can create some cool combinations, it can also take a while to learn. This isn’t even mentioning that the visuals, while excellent most of the time, can occasionally throw you off as to where you are attacking. Fortunately, these are not the biggest concerns one can have with a game, and I was able to look past them. In fact, the only other issue I had was with the music. The game’s soundtrack was nothing to write home about, but it served the job well.

For a game like this, the main draw is the gameplay itself, and once you adjust to the mech customization, it plays beautifully. Maybe I am biased, in that I love games like this, but Damascus Gear- Operation Tokyo was a fun experience, and I enjoyed most of my time with it. Aside from the issues i mentioned, this is a really good game and I feel most would like it also. I highly recommend checking this out.
