QUByte Games has released a number of great games for consoles, such as 99Vidas, and the Vasara Collection, and now have released a new budget game as well. Aldred Knight is a simple title, but somehow feels like it is a lot more. You play as a knight with the default name of Aldred and must go on a quest in this platformer title. Sounds generic, but the platforming is anything but.

Aldred Knight manages to make the platforming feel more involved. You will need to take the time to learn and adjust to everything, while also learning how combat works. The opening levels will ease you in, and focus more on the combat, while later levels pack a surprising amount of difficulty. The levels can be rather devious at times, but are well designed and so should you die, it is a matter of skill and not bad game design. You will need to learn enemy movement, and this can get annoying at times, but it is never too bad really, just a bit repetitive. There are objectives for the levels as well, such as rescuing captured villagers and destroying enemy objects. These are needed for full 100& completion and helps add some replay value to the game. You will also need to be aware of shops in the levels as well. These shops serve two purposes, in that they serve the role of checkpoints in addition to selling upgrades and health items.

Combat is well done in this game and feels natural. Each enemy has their own unique weakness, giving the combat a bit of a puzzle element as well. This is also where the repetitive enemy movement patterns come in, as some enemies attack in a way that makes you wait. When you do attack however, it is extremely satisfying and gives a nice sense of accomplishment. This also extends to the boss fights as well, as they are a great throwback to the classic era of gaming. The bosses are well designed and memorable as well,  and a real standout part of the game to me.  Be patient, plan your attack and go in for the strike while dodging and you will be fine.

Visually the game is a great throwback to the 8-bit era, and while the music could have been better, it was still appreciated. QUByte is known for quality in their games and Aldred Knight is no different. I highly recommend this game, as it is a budget game done right.
