I must make a disclaimer before I start the review. I am a massive fan of the Trine series, and Trine 2 is my all time favourite indie game. With that said, I will try my best to take an unbiased look at Trine Enchanted Edition on Switch

For those who are unfamiliar with Trine, the best way to describe the series is as the spiritual successor to Blizzard’s The Lost Vikings. Both games are puzzle platformers that involve switching between three characters in order to progress. Trine however, handles things slightly differently.  Trine sees three different figures, a thief, a warrior and a mage, get bound together by an artifact known as the Trine and must go on an adventure.  You are eased into matters with a slow start so that you can learn how the game works, but the game picks up the challenge once that is done.

One thing I love about Trine is the witty writing and dialogue. The game is a take off on fairy tale adventures and clearly has fun with the concept. The character interactions are nice, and their personalities are well developed. Each character has their specific skill and ability for helping solve the puzzles, from grappling hooks, to bashing, to summoning objects like blocks. Figuring out how to solve each puzzle may get frustrating at times, but you get an amazing feeling of satisfaction once you figure things out. This is a thinking person’s game and I love almost everything about it.

Another thing about Trine is the excellent music. It has a great fantasy feel that would not be out of place in a classic CRPG, and is one of the best parts of the game. The soundtrack alone is worth playing the game for, and while I wish I could say the same for the visuals, they are okay also. The only real issue is that they seem too dark in some areas and I remember those areas being both brighter and richer on the Wii U. It is overall a small issue though, as the game itself is awesome.

If I have not made it clear so far, I love Trine Enchanted Edition and will of course give it my recommendation. It is a must play title for the Switch and one that can be loved by everybody. Give it a try for yourself, and you will see what I mean about it!
