Mazinger Z is celebrating its 50th anniversary and to celebrate, a special announcement was made for fans.
A deal has been reached for HAMSTER to release the arcade game adaptation of Mazinger Z as part of its Arcade Archives series.
The arcade game “Mazinger Z” is a vertical scrolling shooter game released by Banpresto (currently Bandai Namco Entertainment) in 1994. Players can choose between Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, and Grendizer to enjoy the game.
This marks the first Banpresto game to come to Arcade Archives and given that Bandai Namco now owns Banpresto’s library and has had several titles appear via Arcade Archives, it is possible that more Banpresto games will appear. Banpresto also released titles such as Gardia (1986), The Super Dimension Fortress Macross (1992), and Ultra Guard Fantasy Tokusatsu Game (1996).
It is also worth noting that this marks the release of a licensed game being re-released via Arcade Archives and now opens the door for multiple licensed games to potentially follow, such as Nintendo’s Popeye and perhaps Konami’s Simpsons game.
It is not clear if this will come west at this time, but most Arcade Archives games have done so.
Arcade Archives Mazinger Z will release on PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
