As an RPG enthusiast, I am always looking for more ways to enhance my enjoyment when I play. That is why when I was sent a copy of the book The Ultimate RPG Character Backstory Guide, I found myself quickly drawn in, and despite my years of playing these types of games, I found some new ideas I hadn’t considered.
The Ultimate RPG Character Backstory Guide by James D’Amato delivers not only a refreshing guide for new players, but helpful hints that longtime players should use as well. It doesn’t matter what RPG you are playing, the guide has valid points and helps you make the perfect backstory.
What stood out to me the most though, was that when I was playing some games and I brought up the book to others, these players expressed interest in the book themselves. I am speaking of players that have been RPG fanatics their whole lives,, and yet felt the book had very interesting things to say.
The book breaks down into sections how to develop your characters backstory, what to consider and what wont work. The more I read, the more flaws I realized I had made over the years because I was trying to be different when playing. I am beginning a new play session later this month with a new RPG, and I will definitely use what the guide had to suggest.
In addition to backstory though, the guide also helped me consider new ways to progress in an RPG in a way that properly fit my character. That isn’t to say I had been playing wrong of course, just that I had not considered every option available, or what the best option actually was. This was another reason why the book was popular among players I shared it with, and I feel both longtime and newcomer players of RPGs will get a lot out of it. I truly recommend it a great deal.
The book can be found on amazon or at its publisher Simon and Schuster’s site here
