Terror squid is a weird little game and one that I was glad to play. It’s a very bare-bones game, one that doesn’t have much to show for it. Players will glide around a sphere shooting projectiles and then running from said projectiles. It’s a game that doesn’t need much explanation but gets harder the longer players play it.

Players will start with a blank planet, which they will strafe around shooting at nothing. Players will then need to dodge their projectiles as they aim to destroy them all. It’s a weird game but is surprisingly hard to play for a long time. This game will take no prisoners, and every layer of shooting adds to the fun. This game is rather addicting. Every time I lost, I told myself I’d last one second longer the next time. Every round has different ammo that behaves differently. The first round, for instance, is a simple bullet type that easily is avoidable. By the third round, the other bullets are swarming the planet. With a well-timed explosion at certain intervals, the player will blow up their targets.

My favorite part of the game is the almost sarcastic words that pop up when players explode their targets. You might hit sixty targets and get Groovy!, but say you only hit three or four, you’ll get an ice-cold Pathetic. It’s a little thing, but these words make each run feel fresh, and I think that’s a good thing. This game has a running leaderboard each day and one that stays up forever. When I was playing this, one other person was playing that day. It’s still cool to see your name up on any leaderboard, even if there are only two people on it. Plus, getting onto the all-time leaderboard is thrilling, too if, players can manage to last that long.

Terror Squid is a simple game and one that anyone can play. It doesn’t look like much, but this is a game I wound up playing for a few hours simply because I didn’t even realize time was passing. Each run could last thirty to sixty seconds or longer, and they blended so effortlessly. There is a ship in space shooting it up; will the player help destroy the evidence?
