Happy birthday, PlayStation One! Since December 3rd is Sony PlayStation’s 20 year anniversary (I feel old!), Sony has announced that there will be a new limited edition version of the PlayStation 4 in the styling of the original grey console. To be released in the US and Canada, the limited edition grey PS4 will be indeed very limited. Sony is planning on making only 12,300 unites worldwide.
To show how special the console will be, each system will be numbered. Not only that, but the system itself will feature the original PlayStation four-colored logo and has a repeated etching pattern of the four PlayStation button symbols. The PS4 controller is patterned after the original one and also has the button etchings on the back of it. The limited edition console also comes with a vertical stand, PlayStation camera, and a mono headset to match the system.
If you can’t buy the limited edition PS4, you can still celebrate the anniversary by downloading some free themes for the PS4, PS3, and Vita from the PlayStation Store. The anniversary theme also features the original PS One start-up sound.
The system will cost $499 and will be available for pre-order on December 6. The PlayStation Experience keynote will also take place on the same day at 10 AM Pacific Time. More details on the system will be released during the keynote.
