Persona 3 Dancing in Moonlight is a great new rhythm game out on PS4. This game takes great Persona 3 music and makes a game worth playing. The characters are out in full swing to dazzle and awe the player in spirited fun. I might not have played Persona 3 but even I can’t help but love this game!

This game takes place in a strange world akin to the Velvet Room called the Velvet Stage. The heroes are met by the hostess of the Velvet Room Elizabeth as she tells them it’s time for them to dance. She and the rest of her siblings are having a competition to see which team will be the greatest dancers. The cast, of course, is ready to dance even though it’s a strange turn of events.

This game is a standard rhythm game that takes place in the bizarre world of dreams. The dancers dance in familiar locales to the series’ fantastic music. It is a delight to watch them dance and perform just as the player might expect them too. Each character has their own way of dancing and seeing them dance in just the way they do is always a treat.

Players will gather points by correctly hitting notes as they fly across the screen. There is actually quite a steep learning curve jumping from the Easy mode to the Normal mode and then so on and so forth. It’s a game that will certainly require focus to master though it is honestly fun the whole time. The music guides the way and that is what makes it replayable.

There is a boatload of amazing songs in this game and some are remixed. It’s delightful hearing the great music made new again. Plus, the classic music seems to be fresh too, when used in a rhythm game style. I enjoyed every note as I danced through the soundtrack!

The music might be at the center of the game but the characters are what makes the game shine. Watching them dance along is such a thrill because they all have their own ways of dancing. Each character dances like the player might think they would. It’s magical seeing them bop around to the classic songs, and enjoy themselves. Here they are free from battle and can relax for a little even if they are in competition.

Dancing in Moonlight offers a lot of customization for the characters too. It’s great to collect costumes and change up how the characters look. Some of the costumes are hilarious and others fit the vibe of other characters. It’s a treat to press random and have the characters be outfitted by the computer too.

Dancing in Moonlight takes the amazing characters from Persona 3 and brings them into a magical dancing adventure. These characters are so deep and seeing another side of them should thrill any fan of the series. While I’ve yet to play the main game, this spinoff has certainly made it clear that I must do so.

The player also gets to see more of the characters through social link style cutscenes. By completing goals players will learn more about the characters. These goals might range from how many songs the player has beaten to how many times they powered up. Certainly worth the time to complete all of them.

These social link scenes are even voiced as is the rest of the game. I am consistently a fan of solid voice acting and hearing these characters sure makes it worth it. Plus when the player has cleared enough of the goals they are even given access to the characters rooms. These places are not seen in the game in most cases so they show off a new locale.

The characters rooms are a great reflection of who they are as people. It’s another layer to them shown off in a physical form. Players can see where they sleep and relax, and what else they might be up to when they aren’t with their friends. It might just be a bonus but its a spectacular one.

If the player enjoys Persona 3 they will certainly enjoy this game. While not the game for everyone, any fan of rhythm games and the Persona series should find some enjoyment. Even if they just want to dress up their favorite character and watch them dance to their favorite song. The Persona 3 characters are in a competition, will the player lead them to victory?
