I previously reviewed the re releases of the Doom trilogy and noted about the issues with them. I have decided to re review the games in brief since a new patch has been released.
The ports of Doom I and II have been corrected in their main issues. While I still have problems with some framerate issues, every other complaint has been fixed. The music which was slowed down, and didn’t sound like the classic Doom music has been restored and now we have the classic soundtrack in its proper form. In addition, the lighting issues that I had failed to mention before are also fixed meaning the game looks the way it should.
There were also a small amount of general fixes and while they are small, I do feel the game plays better. I had a smoother experience where replaying Doom and Doom II and I noticed things I hadn’t before. I had not checked the options menu the first time around and that was a rookie mistake. This time I noticed that cheats were included and that is a great thing to have. If you ever have a general issue with the game, the cheats are a great way to immediately get a boost and I am happy they were included.
The rest of my points from the review still stand so I will repeat them here.. After adjusting to dual analogue controls, the rest of the experience is fine. The 4 player deathmatch mode is here, albeit offline only, and is very enjoyable. Doom and Doom II have aged very well overall and these are great games to have. There is something about rampaging through hoards of demons that never gets old. If you are playing on the Switch, there is also the added advantage of taking the games on the go. These are great experiences for those who want to see the start of Doom even if they are not the best ports, but they are priced very well.
I suggest checking these out and seeing for yourself why the games are awesome.
