Some amazing games are coming out in 2020 such as the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Cyberpunk 2077, Animal Crossing, Elden Ring, Doom Eternal and more. However, there are other games that are coming out next year that aren’t getting the attention they deserve. So today I will take a look at ten of these games in no specific order.
Megaman Zero/ZX Legacy Collection
The Megaman Legacy Collections have been an interesting series from Capcom, with one of the big complaints being how the collections tend to be split in two. The Zero/ZX collection will have all the games in one collection and the games themselves are amazing. Developed by Inti Creates, the Zero games are more intense and great for players wanting more of a challenge, while still being open to newcomers. The ZX games have more of a metroidvania feel to them, but still have that series charm. These are games with a hardcore following and it is great to see them getting a re-release, especially with all the extras that Capcom puts into all their collections.
Langriser I&II remake
Langrisser I & II for the Switch, Playstation 4, and Steam heralds the triumphant return of Masaya’s classic tactical strategy RPG a whopping 29 years after its original release. Remastered in full HD glory from the original Sega Genesis version (known as Warsong in the US), this release also features the first official English translation of Langrisser II, something long-awaited by fans of the series. Langrisser I & II features two excellent storylines, a challenging AI, and some of the coolest SRPG combat sequences from the 16 bit era!
No More Heroes III
A true third No More Heroes games has been wanted for some time, and while we got Travis back in the form of Travis Strikes Again, it wasn’t the true third game we had been waiting for. No More Heroes III promises to be the game we have been waiting years for, and the reveal trailer alone shows a return to classic gameplay and new concepts that may make their way into the game. We know it is being designed around the joy cons, and fan favourite characters will return as well, making this a must play title when it launches.
Streets of Rage 4
The Streets of Rage trilogy was a beloved series of games, and the upcoming fourth game has many excited as it was thought there would never be a fourth entry. A co production between Dotemu, LizardCube and Guard Crush Games, Streets of Rage 4 will see the return of classic characters, new debuts and once more have the music of series composers Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima. The developers have promised an experience that pays honor to the past games while also moving things forward, and what we have seen from behind the scenes videos is very promising.
Digimon Survive
A celebration of 20 years of Digimon comes to a head with a new survival game, with characters made by Uichi Ukumo, and music by Tomaki Miyoshi. Digimon Survive brings on a new group of teens led by Tokuma Momozuka. In a high stakes SRPG styled 2D game, where choices matter and death is abound, Digimon has never been this cool.
Granblue Fantasy Versus
Arc System Works is beloved for their work on fighting games and Granblue Fantasy Versus may be one of their most ambitious yet. You must empty an opponents life meter several times to win a match, and each character is given what are called Skybound Arts that can be triggered with a single button press to use or as a command input for a stronger version with less cooldown. The story mode in the game will also be different, as it will be a beat em up with rpg elements and a co op mode. The fighting itself looks intense and Arc System Works may just outdo themselves here.
Fairy Tail
Fairy Tail is a legendary anime, with a vast array of characters. Hiro Mashima’s hit anime is finally being made an intense RPG by Gust and Koei Tecmo. With all the characters fans love, a compelling story, quests, and the ability to make the guild the best, this game is going to be every Fairy Tail fans dream come true.
Trials of Mana Remake
Final Fantasy 7 isn’t the only Square Enix RPG getting a remake next year, as the third entry in the Mana series is getting a new lease on life. A full 3D remake of the classic, this will play a bit closer to games like Ys VIII and the Tales series. Also playable in it’s beloved 16-bit format on Nintendo Switch, this remake will be a must play for JRPG fans and fans of classic gaming alike.
Destroy All Humans
An amazing game that referenced classic 1950’s b movies, Destroy All Humans was something different. The original game is now getting a complete remake on modern systems, so a new generation will get a chance to play the adventures of Crypto, complete with modern gameplay elements and advances. This one isn’t talked about enough and will be one to watch in 2020.
Ori And The Will Of The Wisps
This one isn’t as under the radar as the others, but still needs mentioning here. Ori and the Will of the Wisps follows on from Ori and the Blind Forest but adds a dew new twists to the gameplay. Autosaving is now done instead of placing soul links, and the original upgrade system has been replaced with one similar to that of Hollow Knight. The first Ori game blew everyone away, and its sequel looks to be doing the same in an even bigger way as the developers have learned what worked and what didn’t. Changes were made to make fans happy, and the result will be incredible.
And there you have it. 10 games to watch in 2020. What games are you looking forward to?
