When it comes to RPGs, one of the best was made by Nintendo and Camelot in the form of Golden Sun. A standout RPG taking influence from Camelot’s earlier games such as Shinning Force and Beyond the Beyond, Golden Sun was different in the way it handled puzzles. You would need to interact with the environments in certain ways, and also use the game’s unique psyenergy system in the overworld, giving the games a great puzzle feel as well.

There was also a very detailed battle system, including the use of summons, and stacking your attacks for more offense. You would also need to plan out your use of psyenergy and the Djiin would affect your abilities as well. Each character had a unique element to them, and mixing things up would open new possibilities.  Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, ended on a cliffhanger and there is a strong demand to see where the series would go after that.  Considering that each game became more epic in scale than the last one, a Golden Sun game in HD on the Switch would be absolutely amazing.  Camelot has been somewhat low-key as of late, although their last game, Mario Tennis: Aces was a major step up from that game’s immediate predecessor Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash.  Camelot is now more familiar with HD gaming and it feels like now is the time for an HD Golden Sun for the Switch.

The series has a massive amount of fan support behind it, even more now than ever, and Nintendo has been good about getting high quality RPG series for the Switch library. Golden Sun is rooted in traditional RPGs, even with its many unique quirks. That style of gaming still has a lot of support and Golden Sun would be perfect for Nintendo to revive on the Switch. But how should it be revived is the question, and there are two main possibilities I see.

First and foremost would be a proper fourth game in the series in full 3D and HD. We could interact with the world in more meaningful ways, have a much bigger world to explore and new and more epic battles. We could finally resolve the cliffhanger and expand the story in new ways, and perhaps even take direction from some other games like Dragon Quest XI and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, while still keeping true to the spirit of Golden Sun. The potential for puzzles would be great, and the way psyenergy could be applied using modern gameplay elements has a lot of potential.

The other possibility would be full 3D HD remakes of the first two games. Golden Sun and Golden Sun the Lost Age were intended to be one game after all, and this could be a good way to recombine the games. This could be done similar to the Trials of Mana remake with a reimagining of the environments, while still being true to the original games. The original puzzles could be redone to factor in 3D environments, and the summons and abilities could be shown to their full extent to give the battles a truly spectacular feel.

In the end, it does not matter how it is revived, but the fact is that it is time for Nintendo and Camelot to bring the series back in some form and no doubt fans are ready for it as well.
