2019 is going to be a year of many amazing games. With titles like Metro Exodus, and Devil May Cry 5, the year is stacked. One game that should not be missed though, is Rage 2. The sequel to a middling FPS game, Rage 2 looks to improve on its predecessor in every way.
From everything shown in the previews, Rage 2 clearly follows in the footsteps of Id software’s Doom reboot in that it takes what works, throws out the rest, and then builds up an experience that stands out. Developer Avalanche has worked with Id to create something new and exciting that manages to feel unique and familiar at the same time from what we have seen.
While the game isn’t out yet, it has received massive amounts of praise from those who have gotten the chance to play it and its easy to see why. The game abandons all pretense of serious storytelling and goes for fun and enjoyable gameplay. In some respects, it even seems closer to a fallout game than Bethesda Game Studios’ own title Fallout 76, with its open world gameplay and character customization. It may not be an RPG like fallout, but the setting, themes and many gameplay elements do give it that feeling.
This is clearly not a game that is a rush job and a lot of love and care is being put in here. Rage 2 is a game that is for the players and one that we need to watch this year. It doesn’t have the same flaws as Fallout 76 and is made on an engine that can clearly support the game. It takes the best of two great series ( Mad Max and Doom) and mixes other new ideas in to create what this writer feels could be a game of the year contender.
We will be keeping an eye on Rage 2, Will you?
