The modding scene for Elder Scrolls V Skyrim has been strong ever since the game launched in 2011, and is no doubt the reason the game has endured for so long. There has been a large variety of mods, such as quality of life mods, fan expansions, new followers and more. There is one kind of mod that has attracted a lot of attention ,and those are the ones that seek to bring the older games in the series to Skyrim’s engine. Skyblivion and Skywind have been in the works for years, But another that fans should be aware of is Skygerfall, a mod that brings the main quest of The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall to Skyrim.

It should be noted right away, that this is not the full game of Daggerfall. Much is missing here, but what we have is the main quest fully voice acted. The mod authors have said that they want to keep working on this and eventually bring as much as they can of Daggerfall into Skyrim. Since the last time I looked at the mod, improvements have indeed been made, such as to weapons, textures and meshes, and even new models being added over the years. This process takes time due to the limited team working on the mod, but what we have here in the meantime is a rather fun experience. One way the mod works best is by suggesting the use of other mods such as Spellcrafting for Skyrim and Daggerfall characteristics, and many are linked to in the mod’s page on the nexus, so there is no worry of where to look to find them.

At launch, there were a number of bugs with the mod, but improvements have been made since the early days since release, including the aforementioned tweaks and changes to quests reward and weapons, additions to smithing, and new models added.  What we have now, are classic Daggerfall enemies and weapons, that behave the way they did in Daggerfall, with classic alchemy ingredients and spells also returning. Most of the locations are here as well, even some that are not relevant to the main quest. Obviously there is a lot missed without the sidequests, but what we have is a perfectly acceptable semi remake of Daggerfall. While experimenting, I tested the mod with a controller and found that it works perfectly that way as well. So for those who play Skyrim in that manner, you are not left out.

Skygerfall is a mod to watch over the next few years, as much has been added and even more is planned. While it is worth checking out now, it will only continue to get even better and seeing it progress will be excellent. I recommend giving this one a playthrough.

You can check out the mod for Skyrim here and for Special Edition here.
