The CD-i  Zelda games, releases Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon are notorious titles, with well deserved reputations, but they do have fans. While it is believed that the games are unsalvageable,  an amateur game developer named Dooply decided to spend the last four years re-imagining both of these games using the original games’ assets. Dopply noted that the developing the project served as a great way to learn the game engine GameMaker.

Dooply has made both remasters free to download and play on Windows and Linux. There are no plans for any updates in the future. Dopply did state that these are not straight remakes, but instead “capture the spirit” of the originals.  Included in these versions are a widescreen mode, a remastered mode designed to produce “less frustrating gameplay,” subtitles, polished sprites, and new unlockable content among others., and more.

Given that Nintendo does not own the CD-i games, it is unlikely that they will come after Dooply for this. Therefore, the games should be safe to download for a while.
