Many Nintendo games change from when they are first revealed to when they are finally released, and one such example is with the demo for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time that appeared at Space World ’97 in Japan. This was a unique build that had elements and scenarios that were very different from the final game.  This demo was left in the past until a group of modders got involved.

This group of developers and modders have managed to recreate the Space World OoT demo from 1997 as much as possible. This was done thanks to the part of the rom found in a development cartridge of F-Zero X, and also from the infamous ‘gigaleak’. The former gave access to a lot of the textures and content, while the gigaleak was used to gain a significant amount of insight and assets that were used within this project’.

This is not a 100% accurate version to the original Space World demo, as the developers have had to piece together some elements, but it is an interesting project nonetheless.

This project aims to be a mostly accurate representation of the Nintendo Spaceworld 1997 demo of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Since this project aims to restore an experience that was originally a demo, it cannot be completed from start-to-finish like the final game. Instead, three gameplay “tours” featured in the original Spaceworld 1997 demo are available to choose from, each showcasing various unique flavors of gameplay.
