Update 2: The Lee family has denied these claims

Update: Lindholm reached out to Nintendolife to state that this was his own opinion and speculation and not from Capcom. He also stated that his source was an independent third party. It remains to be seen what the truth is.

It seems a beloved Street Fighter character may not show up in the franchise anymore. Fei Long, who first appeared back in Super Street Fighter II, is an action film star from Hong Kong, and a clear homage to Bruce Lee. Sadly his status as an homage means he will not be appearing again according to Street Fighter composer Daniel Lindholm. During a Q&A about Street Fighter, Lindholm addressed the topic of Fei Long, and explained why he likely won’t be back.

A character that I know we won’t see at all — there’s been a lot of discussion about it — I mentioned earlier a character I would like to rewrite the music for would be Fei Long.

I do have other sources — not only Capcom, but friends of mine in the U.S., who are very close friends with the Lee family — and they have basically said that any kind of resemblance to Mr. Bruce Lee is now omitted for comedic effect, comic stuff. It needs to be honourable.

That’s why we won’t see Fei Long again. Ever.

It is sad to see, but hopefully one day the character will return.
