Super Smash Bros has had a great amount of characters added over the various entries, but not every character that fans want has become playable. Some characters have been added as assist trophies rather than playable characters, but it is not unheard of for assist trophies to become playable in later games as seen with Isabelle and Little Mac. With that in mind, here are seven assist trophy characters who should become playable

Waluigi

Fans have wanted Waluigi for a long time, but he seems to have been relegated to assist roles. The thing is, he can actually be a very interesting character with a unique playstyle if he is made with references to the Mario spinoff titles. He could have moves based on Tennis, Soccer/Football, Baseball and even dancing. He may not be a typical Mario character, but that is part of what makes him so perfect for the roster, as he would play very unlike the other Mario characters. It would be a long time coming, and could be one of the more inventive characters in Smash.

Isaac

Isaac was my most wanted character for Smash Bros Wii U/3DS and Ultimate. Despite being a swordsman, something we all know Smash already has several of, Isaac has something to set himself apart. His psyenergy attacks would help make him one of the most innovative fighters in the game, You could use his various elemental attacks, as well as the abilities used in Golden Sun to interact with the environment like “Catch” and so on. As well, he could have his own stance system similar to Shulk or a system where he builds up his power, either by holding back or being strategic in order to use his most powerful attacks. There is so much variety that can be done with this character that I am shocked he isn’t playable in Smash yet.

Bomberman

Bomberman has had a long history with Nintendo and is a beloved gaming icon. Super Bomberman R was a successful  launch title for the Switch, which Konami has been supporting well. This is why I am shocked he was only an assist trophy. As a playable fighter, he would fit excellently alongside Mega Man and Sonic and Pac Man as a 3rd party character who is an icon of gaming. His moveset would be amazing since he could use his various attacks from the games, including different types of bombs, power-ups and traps.  In fact, Bomberman could have quite the varied move-set and play in many different ways.  As well, if we bring alt costumes into this, he could have the Bomberman Rangers from Super Bomberman R as well as Max. He could also pay tribute to all of Hudson Soft’s games similar to how Pac-Man does for classic Namco Games.

Skull Kid

Skull Kid has been one of the most requested characters among fans for inclusion in Smash for years, as he is one of the most popular characters in the Zelda franchise. His moveset could inquorate the attacks various bosses of Majora’s mask, as well as the character’s moveset from Hyrule Warriors. He could work to disorient his enemies as well in a manner similar to Witch time and Shulk’s visions. He could also make reference to many of the other Zelda games that do not get enough attention, and his final smash is a no brainer, as he would crash the moon into the enemies.

Takamaru

Takamaru debuted in the Famicom game Nazo No Murasamejo. or The Mysterious Murasame Castle. It was an action adventure game made on the same engine as Zelda 1 and set in feudal Japan, with the samurai Takamaru on a journey to save the land. Takamaru has been considered for Smash numerous times, but was always rejected due to the obscurity of his game outside Japan. However, that reasoning is weakened now that the game has seen an international release on the 3DS, and the Wii version of Samurai Warriors 3 even had a remake of the game as a bonus mode. Takamaru would be a sword fighter, but would also have his projectiles he used in his debut title. Fans want him and its time he finally came.

Alucard

We got two Castelvania representatives in Smash Ultimate, but a different one was considered by the developers at first and that was Alucard. The son of Dracula would play very differently from the Belmonts, as he has a variety of powers in addition to being a sword user. He could use his various transformations and spells in his attacks, and would be one of the more unique fighters Smash could have. Even his sword fighting is not the same as characters like Link or the Fire Emblem characters, due to his sword being more elemental based, and he would not rely on it as much due to being a magic based character like Hero. If anything, Alucard makes a lot of sense to bring in to Smash.

Krystal

Fans of the Smash Bros series wanted Wolf to return since he was dropped in Smash Bros 4, and they got their wish with Ultimate. However, for more variety in moveset and gameplay style a Star Fox character that would be a better addition to the series would be Krystal.  Her assist trophy is focused on her melee attacks, and this emphasis on melee would be able to fully differentiate her from the other Star Fox characters should she become playable. It would also be great to have more female characters in Smash, and Krystal would be a great choice. She is no damsel in distress, and is instead a badass fighter in her own right.

And there you have it. Whom would you want? Let us know!
