Over the last few weeks, I have taken a look at a few characters who should become DLC for Smash Bros Ultimate. Today I want to take a look at five third party characters and why they would be a great fit for Smash. Lets go
Ryu Hyabusa
Ryu Hybausa from Ninja Gaiden is one of the last classic figures from the NES era still relevant in the modern day, to not yet appear in Smash Bros. and that needs to change. Ryu could use attacks and abilities based on both the classic games and the modern games, and could bring along much of his classic music as well. He could be a fast paced character, and also use his ninja magic from the new games for his abilities, and his projectiles as ranged attacks. Koei Tecmo needs a rep and Ryu should be it.
Axel Stone
Streets of Rage has seen a big revival recently with Streets of Rage 4, and an appearance in Smash by Axel Stone would be a great way to cement the series return. Axel would play a bit like Ryu and Terry, but with more basic versions of their moves, and could even take on some attacks and abilities from the other Streets of Rage characters to highlight the series as a whole. The finals smash has two possibilities as well, one being a version of summoning aid ala the specials in the first game, or alternatively a group attack from the entire Streets of Rage roster.
Jill Valentine
There has been a severe lack of female characters in the Smash DLC so far, and one great character to fill that role would be Jill Valentine. Jill could have ranged attacks using her weapons, but could also take Ryu and Terry’s lead and incorporate moves from fighting games, namely her appearances in the VS series. Sakurai might need to tone down the weapons somewhat to maintain the rating, and I do not think the zombies could appear for that reason, but I would be happy to be surprised.
Adol Christin
Ys is a series beloved in Japan, and has a history with Nintendo, with the first five games appearing on the Famicom and Super Famicom, as well as Ys VIII appearing on Switch in addition to spinoffs and remakes. Adol is a swordsman yes, but I feel he could bring something else to the table He could be a much faster paced character, and not to mention the additional abilities from the series that could be brought over to Smash for Adol’s special moves. And to bring up music again, Adol appearing could bring in music from the entire Ys series, noted for some of the best music in gaming,
The Dragonborn
The hero of Skyrim, the Dragonborn would be an interesting pick for Smash Bros. Skryim was successful on Switch, and there is a lot that could be done with the character. The character doesn’t need to be a sword character either, as they could be used as a magic based character, incorporating spells from Skyrim, while also bringing in the shouts. The shouts could be the special moves, such as unrelenting force, while summoning a dragon to attack enemies would be an ideal final smash
And there you have it. five third party characters who would be great for Smash. Whom would you want? Let us know.
