Dragon Ball FighterZ is an amazing game that won the hearts of fans everywhere, but it is not without issues. One primary issue is that the roster is very Saiyan heavy, with multiple versions of Goku and Vegeta. The different versions all play differently, but many feel that multiple versions of the same character is a bit of a waste of roster space. What to do though, with these iconic characters? Well, what if a future sequel to the game found a way to simplify the roster and the multiple versions of the characters.
One possibility for this would be a variation system similar to Mortal Kombat X. To be more specific, there could be one Goku as a playable character, and that Goku could have several variations, such as standard Goku, Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan Blue and Ultra Instinct. The same could be applied to Vegeta and other characters as well, to allow for multiple versions of a character without expending roster space. This could even allow other characters to also have multiple versions of themselves, representing their various points throughout the series. Not only would this solve the roster issue, it would give the devs a chance to give lesser characters more love as well, with multiple versions.
Another way would be to have each character have an install. The installs would work for characters who have transformations and would allow for the multiple Goku and Vegeta variations to simply be different transformations of a base character. There could still be another additional version for them, particularly for versions that play too differently from each other. What this would do however, is give the devs a way to incorporate the various incarnations of the characters without taking up too much roster space. This of course doesn’t include versions such as Kid Goku and so on, because those could only work as a separate character.
Dragon Ball FighterZ was amazing, and I have high hopes for a sequel. It is in Bandai Namco’s best interest to find a way to address fan complaints, while still being true to the series.
