You can expect Playstation’s next-gen console release in 2020 at the earliest

Wired has published an exclusive first-look at Sony’s as yet unnamed next-gen console, courtesy of Mark Cerny. There’s a lot of technical jargon to sift through, but here’s the most important information I was able to extract.

  • Ray-tracing for enhanced lighting and reflections, as well as 3D audio
  • Built-in solid state drive allowing for vastly improved load times
  • 8K graphics support
  • Backwards compatibility with PS4 games
  • Compatibility with the current PSVR headset

As a big PS4, PSVR, and all round Playstation fan, this all sounds pretty amazing. The article is incredibly hardware focused as little information on software or features has been provided just yet, but regardless, it sounds like the “PS5” is shaping up to be a major step up over its predecessor. For a more in-depth look, you can read Wired’s original article.

Hoi, I'm Stevie! I'm a big fan of many things (mainly Digimon) but when it comes to video games, there's nothing I love more than a great puzzle game. Give me a list of objectives to work my way through and I'm a happy player. I'm fond of a solid platformer and any game with a difficult challenge to overcome. I tend to grow tired of point-and-click and RPG games, but there are always exceptions to the rule. I also podcast, running The Moncast where I talk about the Pokemon and Digimon anime side-by-side (supported by Patreon).
