The Portal Companion Collection launched on Switch today and some interesting details were found in the ROM.
This port seems to be based on the NVIDIA Shield port with bits of the Xbox 360 Version, but more important is what else was in the ROM.
The entirety of Half-Life 2 except for maps and music is present in the ROM but does not seem to be accessible just yet.
Modder OatmealDome has been trying to get HL2 maps to load without luck, as attempting to use the “hl2” game folder causes crashes while loading d1_trainstation_01 in Portal 1 crashes during the map loading screen. OatmealDome also noted that all the files are packed into a single game.zip which hinders testing.
It is likely this is just a leftover from the Shield version but could it be a sign of things to come?
Update
OatmealDome has managed to get Half-Life 2 running on Switch.
That said, the game is not optimized for Switch and OatmealDome has stated that “the game occasionally crashes, some maps are impossible to progress in, NPC animations are bugged, saves don’t work, and world cameras don’t spawn correctly.”
You can see below for yourself how it runs on the system
