Another homebrew project is bringing a classic game to a retro system, namely Andrea Baldiraghi’s ‘R-Type‘ port forSega’s Mega Driev/Genesis.
Andrea Baldiraghi aka TheRoboZ, also made a Pico-8 port of the game, and now is using the open-source SGDK toolset to apply his skills to Mega Drive/Genesis development, Baldrigahi recently shared a closer look at the Mega Drive/Genesis port they’ve been developing, which includes a brief section of the first level and features smooth scrolling, arcade-quality sprites, and a remix to demonstrate the capabilities of the machine’s YM2612 sound chip.
Baldiraghi revealed on Twitter that the plan for this new port is to release it a 4-stage ROM for free, and then publish the source code so that others can add more levels to it. A free demo of the first level will be comingd in the next month or two as well.
