Hypership Out of Control was a unique game. It took elements of a shoot’em up and combined them with concepts from autorunners to create a unique and addictive experience.  It was an addictive experience, especially on iOS and with the sequel, developer Fun Infused Games has managed to build on what came before in a neat way.

Hypership Out of Control 2 follows in the footsteps of the first game, where the gameplay is a mix of the shoot’em up and autorunner genres, but does manage to do some new things to enhance the experience. These include things like more obstacles to avoid such as new enemy patterns and platforms,  while new powerups are available as well such more attack options, new shields and speed options. The game also throws new challenges at you, so you are constantly being forced to find new ways to avoid danger. This time around, there are an increased number of ships and unlike the first game, these ships all feel unique to play as.  Something that really stands out though, is the branching path system that adds a lot of variety to the gameplay. There are more things to find now and new ways to experience the levels. I find that this is a great way to encourage replaying the game, so kudos on a well implemented idea.

 

Hypership Out of Control II is a pickup and play game that you will spend a few minutes on here and there, and was not designed with long gameplay in mind. Fun Infused Games merged autorunning games with shoot em ups and as such, this is meant to be played for a few minutes at a time. This is not to say the game is bad, but just that there was a specific idea in mind when the game was made. If you go in expecting something big, you will be disappointed. If you are fine with shorter games, then it is not an issue for you.

One area I do love is the visuals, as the developers managed to make each effect pop out and the visual effects each felt unique. You will be seeing a lot of these effects as you play, so the time and effort put into the presentation of the game is commendable. The audio also done very well, and while it may not be on the level of some of the big name shoot em ups, it will do its job very well. For a game meant to be played in short bursts every so often, this is a remarkable product, that should interest even veterans of the shoot em up genre.

In conclusion, I really did like this game and must recommend it, as it is a very unique experience.
