The Lego Star Wars series has been around for a long time and has led players on journeys through all the movies. The Skywalker Saga takes those stories and unites them in one collection. But it does more than just that; it enhances them. The worlds are vast, and there is plenty to keep players occupied; it is magical. I remember playing the original Lego Star Wars and loving it, and now even years later, I can’t get enough of lightsabering and blasting through this incredible series.

The Skywalker Saga tells the story of the complete Star Wars Saga. From Episode 1 to Episode 9, players can explore the universe the story takes place. They will need to choose an Episode to start things off and can choose from Episodes 1, 4, or 7 right from the start, and each story has five actual levels, but the rest of the areas are freely explorable. Players can change their character freely outside of the levels and like in other Lego games, once the levels are complete, the player can jump into free play and collect the remaining objectives.

Each movie is comprised of 5 actual levels but the story continues in between those standard levels. It tells each story with the energy they deserve and keeps players involved from beginning to end. As usual, players will want to collect as many studs as possible to gain True Jedi status in each level, which might seem daunting but eventually, it’s possible to unlock stud multipliers which makes the whole process less troublesome.

The Skywalker Saga has some other added components as well, such as the ability to hide behind objects. When laser shots are being fired, it’s best to hide and wait for a moment to counterattack, though brute force works too. It adds a layer to combat though and makes it feel more alive, plus breaking down and rebuilding these walls grants extra studs.

There are countless mini-games hidden throughout the world to pit friends against each other. Playing basketball or trying out a shooting range is always more fun with a friend. This game wants to be fun for whoever plays it and I love that. It’s fun from beginning to end and that makes it a good Lego game. It’s great to find these minigames too because they are hidden within the stages. Playing through you might not know what is and isn’t a minigame, and it becomes a game in and of itself finding them all.

The Skywalker Saga has over 300 characters in the base game, and that’s impressive by any game’s standard. They might mostly play the same, but it gives life to characters who were only on the screen for a moment. With DLC, it’s actually closer to 400 characters, and from weird characters like Yaddle to the Vicious General Grievous or the Mandalorian everyone is basically here.

There are over 1100 Kyber Bricks to collect, and it’s a good idea to find as many as possible early in the game. The Kyber bricks are essential to progressing in the game and buying characters. The sheer amount of Kyber bricks is a little unnerving, but with nine movies, and so many huge worlds to explore, it makes sense that there are so many. Some take a certain character type or even a particular character to find, others are hidden in plain sight, it’s best to look in every nook and cranny, as Kyber bricks are everywhere.

The Galaxy is also explorable, and with a multitude of ships to pilot, the player will have fun drifting through space, battling marauders, destroying comets, and taking part in battles between the Empire and the rebels. It’s incredible to fly to and fro in such wide spaces and is just as fun with a second player in tow. There are plenty of different areas to fly around in and players can simply enjoy space travel if they want a little reprieve from the action.

While it’s not ever necessary, most Lego Games offer up the ability to make custom characters.  This is done using the pieces of the other heroes and villains, and players generally can make who they want. With such a roster of characters, it’s not hard to imagine why this wasn’t implemented, but it would be cool to see it return anyway.

Lego Star Wars the Skywalker Saga isn’t the first Lego Star Wars Game, but it has to be the best. There is so much content in this game, and the game is so much fun. New and old fans alike are sure to enjoy this game, and it’s a perfect fit for parents to introduce their kids to Star Wars. The characters will also say their iconic lines from time to time, such as when they collect a Kyber Brick, for instance, they might say a line. It’s also cute when you do collect a brick if it is in co-op, and then the other playable character will clap. This is a game that doesn’t always take itself seriously and that is always part of the Lego Games charm.

Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga is a sign of what’s to come for Lego games, and I’m excited about it. Lego games have always been fun, but the sheer ability to expand seems in store. I’m excited to see what comes next for Lego games, and this game shows what’s possible. The battle for good and evil is being waged, may the force be with you.
